Easy Fish Earring Instruction

materiall 8/0 for a body l 11/0, 6/0 or any kind of beads for a fish eye l size D Nymo l size 12 sharp needle l a set of earring hook

Horace's Lakota Chain

Horace Goodhue's Indian Bead-Weaving Patterns is absolutely great book for a beader who wants to learn a new stitch. One thing is, hardness of reading those hand-written diagrams. (I'm not complaining. The book was published way before pc and DTP stuff.) However, for a non-native English speaker like me, it takes long to get what I'm doing, as graphics of this book doesn't give me an instant idea. Followings are something I drew when I tried Lakota Chain (p. 52 of the book) in order to help my understanding. I thought this may be helpful to others, too.

Pick up pattern for a sample above and blank one.

PDPick up 3 beads, and tie a knot.

2. Pick up 6 beads (No.4 - 9), PT No.2. This part is different from the original Goodhue's instruction. It is easier for me this way.

3.@Pick up 3 beads iNo. 10 - 12), PBT No.8 and7.

4. Pick up 6 beadsiNo.13 -18), PT again No.7 and 8. Then, pick up 3 beadsiNo.19 - 21), and PBT No. 17 and16. Repeat this process until you have desired length of chian.

First of all, I thank Raven Willey of Howling Rabbit for sharing the Nepal chain. The following projects are a combination of this attractive stitch and other well-known techniques. I also thank Capriccio, whose page offered an excellent pictorial instruction for the beaded cube. It's an easy, fun to do project and looks quite nice.

1. Make as many beaded cubes as you want to attach on a bracelet, referring to the instructions on Maria's site. These beaded cubes make the berries. I attached one berry (shown by a cluster of red beads) after every two leaves (shown by green beads in fig.1) on each side of the vine.

2. String 6 brown beads, a clasp or a jump ring, and tie a knot. Go through one bead on the loop.

3. String 3 brown beads, a cube, 1 brown bead. Skip the brown bead just strung, and go back through the cube, 3 brown beads, and the bead on the loop you came out of. (fig.2)

4. Following the Nepal chain instruction on the Howling Rabbit site, make one leaf. Then, instead of going through one bead of a leaf as in the normal Nepal chain, go through one of the beads in the cube in order to secure the flower to the stem and continue to stitch. (fig.3) Keep adding leaves and berries until the bracelet is the desired length.

5. Finally, add 6 brown beads and a clasp at the end of a stem. Tie a knot.

Flowerneck inst

Here, I show the way to replace a leaf with a daisy flower. Apply this in your work as you like. In my Spring flower, I attached one daisy after every two leaves on each side of vine.

1. After coming out of "stem" part (shown by brown beads in fig.1), make a daisy of daisy chain.

2. Go through a part of "petals" (shown by red beads), and come out from the first bead of the daisy.

3. Following to Napal chain instruction, make one leaf. Instead of going through one bead on a leaf in normal Napale chain, go through one of bead in the daisy. (fig.2) Keep adding leaves and flowers.
