Opening Hymn To God be the Glory (Hymn 399, v. 1,2, printed on p. 4 & 5) Invocation P: The grace of our Lord + Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. C: And also with you. Confession & Absolution P: Since we are gathered here in the Lord’s house, let us confess our sins before our God. C: Gracious Shepherd, we have often strayed from the path you have set before us. We have sought pastures that do not nourish us. We have walked in places dangerous to us. We have veered off into thickets that threatened to entangle us. We have squandered your gift of new life. P: Gracious Shepherd, you keep calling us back into your pasture and your flock. C: And we keep wandering away from the meadows to which you guide us. We chase after what does not satisfy. We pursue what is only temporal and transient. We long for what the world offers. P: Gracious Shepherd, we stand here now to ask for your forgiveness. C: We repent of everything we have done that ruptures our relationship with you. Remove from us the desire to walk our own paths and give us grace to walk before you in holiness and righteousness.

P: Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we en-dure we will reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us. If we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself. Nevertheless, God’s solid founda-tion stands firm sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his.” and “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.” (2 Timothy 2: 11-13,19) You were buried and resurrected by your baptism into Christ. You are the Lord’s; he has called you and claimed you as his own. Therefore, I announce to you that all your sins have been forgiven in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. Song of Praise To God be the Glory (Hymn 399, v. 3, printed on p. 4 & 5) Prayer of the Day P: O Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Good Shepherd who laid down your life for the sheep. Lead us now to the still waters of your life-giving Word that we may abide in your Father’s house forevermore; for you live and reign with him and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen.

First Lesson Acts 6: 1-9; 7: 2a, 51-60 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” 5 This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Proco-rus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. 6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. 7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith. 8 Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people. 9 Opposi-tion arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)—Jews of Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia and Asia. These men began to argue with Stephen. 2 To this he replied: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me! 51 You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fa-thers: You always resist the Holy Spirit! 52 Was there ever a prophet your fathers did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him— 53 you who have received the law that was put into effect through angels but have not obeyed it.” 54 When they heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” 57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Mean-while, the witnesses laid their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep. Gospel Lesson John 10: 1-10 “I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The man who enters by the gate is the shep-herd of his sheep. 3 The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but they did not understand what he was telling them. 7 Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and rob-bers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Sermon Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pas-tures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

“The Lord is my good Shepherd.”

Apostles’ Creed (We join together to give public confession of our faith) I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He as-cended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. Thank Offering “We love because he first loved us.” 1Jn 4:19 God’s love in sending Je-sus to live, to suffer, and to die for each of us motivates the members of Beautiful Savior to show their love and thanks by returning a portion of their income to the Lord. Through these free will offerings, this congregation and its ministries are maintained. *If you would like to give your regular offering envelope, you can mail it to the church. Prayer of the Church and the Lord’s Prayer P: O Lord God, our strength, our song, and our salvation, you fulfilled your promises by the resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ, from the dead. C: Thanks be to God! You give us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. P: In your compassion you sent Christ, the Good Shepherd, who laid down his life to res-cue the lost. C: Drive out all doubt and gloom that we may delight in your glorious triumph. P: Lift our eyes heavenward to see him who lives to make intercession for the saints, and grant us confidence in the greatness of his power. Keep before us the vision of your re-deemed people standing before your throne and singing the song of victory. C: Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive wisdom and power and honor and glo-ry and praise. P: Make us instruments of your peace as we bring the good news of hope and new life to those around us. Guide us in the use of all that you have entrusted to us: our time, our talents, and our treasures. C: Risen Lord, live in us that we may live for you. P: Merciful Lord Jesus, grant healing to the sick, and strengthen the faith of the suffering and the dying. Assure them of your abiding presence, and comfort them with the hope of eternal life. P: Hear us, Lord, as we bring you our private petitions. Silent Prayer. P: Gracious Father, you have restored to us the joy of your salvation. With happy hearts, we come before you and say: C: Alleluia! Thanks be to God! Amen. P: Hear us Lord as we pray together the prayer you taught us:

What we will do is continue to offer Sunday Worship services that you can view on Livestream by access-ing the church website. Until we can gather together again for Worship, we will bring Worship to you! If you would like to talk to Pastor about any needs or concerns, please give him a call at church at 931-905-1400 or email him at [email protected].

Not receiving our newsletters? If you have not received our recent newsletters concerning COVID-19 updates and ongo-ing scheduling changes, and would like to, call the church office at 931-905-1400 or email at [email protected].

Online Bible Study

Bible Studies have now been posted on “The Seven Churches of Revelation.” We are still working at getting it into the right place on the website, but for now you can find it by going to the same place that you access the sermons. Go to our website then click on, “service streaming,” on the blue banner, and then click on “online service streaming.” You will see Sunday’s sermon there as well as the last couple weeks of sermons, but there you will also see the first Bible Study called “Seven Churches 1” and the second is “Seven Churches 2”. Or to make it simpler, here is the direct link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8s5xO2z4Ao&t=84s

At present, over $10,000 has been generously given! We are grate-ful for these gifts and excited for the improvements planned.

Preschool Registration Registration for the 2020-2021 school year is now open to all. Please call the office at 931-905-1400 or email [email protected] for details.
