HEROES! “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people.” Maya Angelou DUE TO THE RECENT SNOW DAYS , SCHOOL WILL BE IN SESSION ON FEBRUARY 17TH. THERE WILL NOT BE SCHOOL ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20TH Kindergarten Round-Up will be held for in-coming kindergarten students for the 2017-2018 school year on Wednesday, March 29. Parents and guardians should schedule a 1-hour appointment for en- rollment, screening, and informational meeting by calling the Elementary office at 812-825-5623. Parents are asked to bring the child's birth certificate, im- munization records, proof of residency (such as utility bill), and custody docu- ments, if applicable. Children must be 5 years old by August 1, 2017. The PTO Free Movie Night will be Friday, February 17th at 6:30 pm. Bring your chairs, blanket, and drinks. Free popcorn will be available. Due to a technical difficulty last month and not being able to show the scheduled movie, the movie shown this month will be the one about a young girl who goes on an adventure with a very large mythical be- ing.

COMMUNITY NEWS: Eastern Greene Youth Baseball is

for incoming kindergarten students

thru 6th grade. Registration forms for

the 2017 season have gone

home. Early bird forms are due

on Friday, February 24th. Registration will

close on Friday, March 3rd. Additional forms

can be downloaded on the school's website un-

der the athletics tab.

Softball form registration was ex-

tended to Friday, Feb. 17th. Forms

are available in the elementary office

or on the school’s website under Ath-

letics.

COUNSELOR’S

CORNER This week’s Bucket Filler lesson is

Bully Beans by Julia Cook.

Bobbette is a mean bully, who

makes children do and say

anything she wants. Bobbette

tells the children she will twist them into human

pretzels if they do not do what she wants. When

this little girl talks to her mom about the bully

her mom gives her Bully Beans (jelly beans).

Bully beans are magic beans that make you

strong so you can stand up to bullies.

Parents of 3rd and 4th grade students: Please

note the following dates regarding testing. We

ask that you avoid making any appointments

on these dates if at all possible.

The ISTEP+ for

grades 3 & 4

testing window will be

Feb. 27-Mar 3.

The IREAD-3 for grade

3 testing window will be

Mar 7-10.

ISTEP SPIRIT WEEK All students are encouraged to participate

in our Spirit Week to help support our stu-

dents who will be taking ISTEP+ and

IREAD.

On Tuesday 2/21 wear Blue - "There is a Super-hero in ALL of us. We just need the COURAGE to put on the CAPE and do what is RIGHT!" Blue also is the color that represents Law Enforcement. Thank you to our Law En-forcement Heroes.

On Wednesday 02/22- wear Green- "You don't become a Hero because of what you do, but be-cause of Who You Are!" Green represents “GO!” GO be a HERO today!

On Thursday 2/23 - wear Red- "Never Say, 'I can't....Always say....I'll try!" Superheros always try! Red is the color that represents our Fire and EMS Heros. Thank you to our Fire & EMS He-roes for all they do!

On Friday 02/24 - wear Camo- Camo is the color that sometimes represents our military heros. “Real Heroes don’t have their name on the back of their jersey...They have their country’s flag on the arm of their uniform.” A BIG thank you to our military heroes at home and overseas.

On Monday 02/27 - “Knowledge is MY Super-Power! - Be a SuperHero!” Wear your favorite superhero shirt. You have all the knowledge to pass ISTEP. Stay FOCUSED! Don’t GIVE UP! Keep pushing forward! Most of all…..DO YOUR PERSONAL BEST!!! Be a EASTERN GREENE SUPERHERO!!!
