Program - Accounting (AAB) - PayrollProcedures - The graduate will be able toprepare and maintain payroll records.Outcome Types:Student Learning - Degree

Outcome Status:Active

Assessment Method:In ACC260, students will complete acomputerized payroll project, including end-of-period reports, using the attached rubric.

Assessment Method Category:Capstone Assignment CategoryCriterion:At least 50% of the graduates will achieve70/100 on this project.

05/11/2010 - ACC260 was taught by anotherinstructor, so the activity was given in ACC212. Itwas assigned as an extra credit project at the endof the semester. Ten out of the eleven studentsturned in complete or partially completed projects.60% of those projects submitted received scoresof 70% or better.

I am satisfied that the outcome was met. I feelthat the scores would have been better if theproject had been given earlier in the semester, and if the project would have been part of requiredwork instead of extra credit. Many of the studentsonly needed part of the points awarded to get an Afor the course. I feel that this affected their needto finish the project.

Program - Assoc. of Arts (AA) - CriticalThinking - The student will demonstrate skillsas original and critical thinkers, readers, andwriters.Outcome Types:Student Learning - Degree

Outcome Status:Active

Assessment Method:The assessment of critical thinking skills wasaccomplished via a 5 item, face-valid,questionnaire developed by a CAP teammember. It was scored via the CriticalThinking Skills rubric that was created by theCAP. Questions were designed based on thecriterion of this rubric. A total of 89questionnaires were administered tostudents at EGCC's Jefferson and MahoningCounty campuses. Humanities and SocialSciences courses as well as a Chemistrycourse were evaluated as part of thisassessment. The highest potential score onthis measure is 28. Likewise, the lowestpossible score is a 7.

Assessment Method Category:SurveyCriterion:This assessment method was designed togather baseline data on student's criticalthinking abilities.

05/11/2010 - A total of 89 students completed theassessment procedure. Descriptive statistics areprovided below.

Additionally, scores on the measure ranged from alow of 7 to a high of 24.Result Type:InconclusiveAction Status:Action Plan in Progress

05/11/2010 - It is important to notethat the assessment measure usedfor this evaluation used questionsthat, on the surface, appeared toevaluate the different components ofcritical thinking as mandated by therubric developed by this committee. The diversity of thinkingskills/abilities and the abstractnature of the critical thinkingconstruct serve as inherentroadblocks to such an evaluation. Therefore, consideration should begiven to a search for, and potentialuse of, a standardized measure ofsuch skills in the future.
