Third Sunday after Mass

Jesus Christ Is Risen Today

This past week, the entire community of

Kiel was cast into the darkness of a tomb. Trevor

Casper, the youngest state trooper in the state of

Wisconsin and a proud member of our city, was

killed in action. He was not deserving of death.

Instead, he answered the call to serve and in so

doing, he gave his life on behalf of others. He

died so that others may live.

Many of us have lived through numerous

Holy Week celebrations. They are the most beautiful

and meaningful liturgies we celebrate all year.

But this year, I suspect, will be a little different.

This year, we will celebrate the paschal mystery of

Jesus – his death and resurrection – not just in a

liturgical way, but within our hearts and our bodies

and our spirits because of what happened with

Trevor.

The prime sacrament of Easter is baptism,

because it reminds us of how our old self was

plunged down into the waters and we rise a new

creation in Christ Jesus. The old has gone away

and the new has come! Yet as wonderful as that

sounds, it comes at a great cost. The old must

die. And death is never easy.

Paul states in Romans (the text used at the

Easter Vigil), “Are you unaware that we who were

baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his

death? We were indeed buried with him through

baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was

raised from the dead by the glory of the Father,

we too might live in newness of life.” Death and

new life go together. We can’t have one without

the other. As was mentioned at Trevor’s memorial

service this past weekend, because of Easter Sunday

we have the assurance that death is never the

end. Life – new life – always is!

But new life only comes when we let the

old life that we know – that we are comfortable

with – go away. And those roots can grow deep.

Resurrection, my friends, is not the same

thing as resuscitation. We are not made new just

to go back to the old life we have known and lived.

We are made new to be different people. To live

differently. To act differently. To be the city of

Kiel together differently.

Kevin and Debbie, Lauren and Olivia, had no

choice but to walk this path this past week. They

can never go back to the life they lived previously.

Just as Jesus carried his scars with him post

resurrection, so, too, will they. But the new life

that Christ has invited them into is not without

His presence. Rather, it is filled with his love,

his mercy and his grace. How else could we

walk forward during a time like that? If God

can redeem and make new the pain and the

hurt and the isolation of the cross on that

Good Friday, he can and will do the same with

the grief and pain we carry. He will make us

new through it and, perhaps, because of it.

One last thing – who was it that greeted

the women at the empty tomb that Easter morning?

In Mark’s Gospel, it was a young man…very possibly

the same young man who ran away naked only

days before. Here he is now, no longer in fear but

seated in a white garment (the garment of baptism!).

And he reminds them that Christ is not held in a

tomb. He is far too alive for that.

Let Trevor Casper be that young man for

you this year. Let him remind you that Christ cannot

be held in death. And because of that, neither

can you or I or he. Alleluia!

Readings for the Week Monday Acts 2:14, 22-33/Mt 28:8-15

Tuesday Acts 2:36-41/Jn 20:11-18

Wednesday Acts 3:1-10/ Lk 24:13-35

Thursday Acts 3:11-26/Lk 24:35-48

Friday Acts 4:1-12/Jn 21:1-14

Saturday Acts 4:13-21/Mk 16:9-15

Weekend Acts 4:32-35/1 Jn 5:1-6/Jn 20:19-31

Join us next week as our readings’ focus is: “When we place our trust in God, mercy conquers the world.” Christ extends his victory over sin and death through us in the sacrament of reconciliation; let us in turn show this mercy to those we encounter in our personal relationships.

Happy Easter!

Alleluia! Our God has overcome sickness and

death! May the new life our God embraces

bless you and your loved ones now and

throughout the coming year. This is the

day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and

be glad!

Easter was Just the Beginning

Premiering on NBC Easter Sunday, April 5,

2015, the series "A.D." will air which covers all

the major stories of the first 10 chapters in

the Book of Acts. This series will give insight

into the challenges the early Christian Church

faced. Some of these challenges Christians

are still facing in today's world.

Weekly Reflections by Joseph Zenk, Pastoral Leader

On Fire for the Lord

Many of us wonder where our faith journey may

take us. For Julianne Donlon-Stanz her faith journey

took her from a little mountain village in Ireland

to northeastern Wisconsin. Her role as Director of

the New Evangelization Department for the Diocese

allows her to share our Catholic faith with people

through programs and seminars.

“This work is tremendously important to me because

it’s impacted my own life on such a personal

level,” Julianne says. “I’ve seen the effects when

people are energized in their faith. They are

really on fire for Christ and His teachings.”

Julianne’s work has impacted more than 7,000

people, and without the support of the Bishop’s

Appeal, Julianne would be unable to bring Christ’s

message to them. Julianne's classes are always

provided to adults at no cost because of your

generosity to the Bishop's Appeal.

To make a gift to the Bishop’s Appeal contact

your parish, visit the Bishop’s Appeal website at

www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give, or call Debbie

toll-free at 877-500-3580 ext. 8184.

6:00 p.m Please join us for prayer, silence, Scripture

Wow! We are at an amazing pace with our Lenten

Project. During our Lenten journey, we are called

to pray, fast and give alms. We thank you for your

financial support of this project, but we also ask for

your prayers for the people involved with the two

schools in Africa – one in Tanzania and another

in Uganda—and for the success of this project.

Marriage Encounter

Looking for a weekend away, just the two of you? It’s

a time to renew your relationship, away from the

everyday distractions of life. It’s an opportunity to

strengthen your communication and promote greater

intimacy in your life. A Marriage Encounter Weekend

offers you this experience. You don’t need a Marriage

Encounter Weekend, but you DESERVE one. Discover

each other again, more deeply, honestly and warmly.

The spring schedule offers you a choice of either April

17-19 or May 16-17. Both are held at the Norbertine

Center for Spirituality in DePere. Call 920.544.5166

do when you get older; estate planning is something

you do when you get wiser."

There are, in fact, many reasons to do estate planning---

to name a guardian for your children

address concerns related to special needs children

minimize estate taxes

ensure livable income for your surviving spouse and children

leave a legacy to your favorite charities

minimize time to settle your estate and make known your

final wishes

Happy Easter!

“Let Us Rejoice and Be Glad … Our Savior Has Risen.” May you have the Happiest of Easter Celebrations!

“Give Us This Day” Books

are at each entrance for you to take. The April edition is a free gift from the publisher to our parish.

Funeral

Please remember in your prayers Melvin Halbach and his family. Melvin’s funeral was on Wednesday. May he rest in peace.

Helping Hand Weekend

Next weekend is our monthly food collection for the Helping Hand Food Pantry. The pantry is currently in need of noodle items, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Christian Women Rummage Sale

The gym will be open daily from 8:00 am–Noon, now until May 6 to drop off items for the Rummage Sale on May 8 & 9. Please use the west entrance of school. All items need to be placed on the stage.

Why Give to the Bishop’s Appeal?

And the king will say to them in reply, “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 24:40

Your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal will help in countless ways. Care ministers are trained to go out and help the homebound and hurting members of their parish. A young woman in an abusive relationship is able, through counseling with Catholic Charities, to stand on her own feet. Families seeking to adopt are connected with newborn babies. Your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal makes happy endings possible.

Make a tremendous difference, and give to the Bishop’s Appeal. What you give is less important than the spirit in which you give, and even small donations add up to large donations. Make a gift today by returning your pledge card, visit the Bishop’s Appeal website at www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give, or call Debbie toll-free at 877-500-3580, ext. 8184.
