La Resureción del Señor

Imagine yourself for a moment in Mary Magdalene’s shoes. She has reoriented her life to follow this man, Jesus, who she had come to suspect could be the Messiah. As she goes alone to the tomb on Easter Sunday morning she searches for answers: Was Jesus really God? If he is God, what was the point of ending his life this way? What’s next for my faith and for Jesus’ movement? Have they both died with Jesus’ death?

Likewise for us as we approach this Easter Sunday, there are still many unanswered questions we may be experiencing: When will this pandemic finally be over? What does that brave new world look like? What is Jesus asking me to learn from what I’m going through in my life right now? Do I really believe? Is the Church worth being a part of?

In the empty tomb, Mary’s questions aren’t answered – however, a new space of possibility is opened up. She sees there Jesus, who she confuses as “the Gardener” – when Jesus is precisely that: the One who creates and recreates us.

Easter is a time of new beginnings, new recreations. Mary runs back to the apostles (in fact she is called the apostle to the apostles), she runs back to this group of individuals who work all this out together and as they are gathered together, Jesus appears to them. This is the beauty of being part of a parish – we wrestle with the important questions together, knowing and believing the Risen Jesus lives here, among us. How does the Risen Jesus want to recreate your life this Easter?

This Lent we used the CRS Rice Bowl Program merged with our own theme: For God So Loved the World. For three weeks we visited other countries with CRS Rice Bowl and did social justice outreach locally. Check out

some of the almsgiving from St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

WEEK 1: Canned food drive for the Emergency Food Box (Several loads of canned food plus $464 in cash and checks and $475 in gift cards to local grocery stores!

WEEK 2: Water filter drive for our sister parish in El Salvador. We hoped to raise enough for 150 filters at $31 each and we provided over 300 filters!

WEEK 3: We provided two truckloads of toiletries for the House of Compassion Supply Closet.

Imagínese por un momento en los zapatos de María Magdalena. Ha reorientado su vida para seguir a este hombre, Jesús, de quien había llegado a sospechar que podría ser el Mesías. SEMANA 1: Colecta de alimentos enlatados para La Despensa de Comida. ¡Varias cargas de comida enlatada más $464 en efectivo y cheques y $475 en tarjetas de regalo para las tiendas de comestibles locales!

SEMANA 2: Recaudación de dinero para filtros de agua para nuestra parroquia hermana en El Salvador (nuestra meta fue 150 filtros a $31/cada uno y recaudamos mas de 300 filtros.

They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.
