Jesus was going to Jerusalem to celebrate the Jewish festival of the Passover.He arrived on a donkey to show he had come in peace.People welcomed Jesus by waving palm branches. Jesus and his disciples met to celebrate the Passover Feast. Before the meal Jesus washed the feet of every person.Jesus passed round bread and wine among the disciples. Jesus and the disciples entered the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus was betrayed by Judas and arrested by the Temple priests.The disciples ran away. Jesus was handed over to the Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate.Jesus was tried and sentenced to death. Jesus carried the cross to the place of his crucifixion. Jesus was nailed to the cross by the Roman soldiers and died after a few hours. Jesus’ mother got permission from Pontius Pilate to take Jesus’ body down and placed it in a tomb. The tomb was sealed by a boulder. Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw the boulder had been moved and the body had gone. She ran to tell the disciples Peter and John, who found only sheets in the tomb. Jesus appeared to Mary and many of his disciples on separate occasions.Jesus remained on Earth for 40 days after his resurrection.He then ascended into heaven.
