The month of April is dedicated both to devotion to the Most Blessed Sacrament and devotion to the Holy Spirit. This tradition has developed because Easter Sunday often falls in April, and when it does fall in March, the Easter sea-son continues on through all of April. In essence, April is a month of Easter, and during the Easter celebration we re-member the Eucharistic sacrifice Christ gave us and the bap-tism in the Holy Spirit, which would come after Jesus's resur-rection. Consider signing up for daily Eucharistic Adoration in our Lady Memorial Chapel. See information page 4. O Sacrament most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All praise and all thanksgiving, Be every moment Thine. Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Seton CYO Basketball Update In addition to playing in the Westchester-Putnam CYO Bas-ketball League, many of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton CYO Basketball Teams enter tournaments or other leagues. These additional games offer the players an opportunity to compete against different parishes and local teams, and to build teamwork and comradery. This year, the Seton players enjoyed particular success at, among others, the following tournaments: 3d Grade Boys (Coach Biele): 1st Place - 3rd Annual Kieran J. Grogan Jr. Memorial Tournament, New Rochelle; 4th Grade Girls (Hahn): 1st Place - Sacred Heart Tournament; Hartsdale; 8th Grade Girls (Parisi): 1st Place - 10th Annual St. Martin de Porres CYO Basketball Tourna-ment, Poughkeepsie. In addition, the Seton 8th Grade Boys (Heslin) were the Champions of their division of the Brew-ster Sports Center Super League. Congratulations to all the Seton CYO Basketball Teams for their excellent seasons.

PIETA PLAQUE A new LED spotlight has been installed on the Pieta frieze that used to adorn the front of the original altar in St. George’s Church. It was restored in 1999 and mounted on the interior west wall of the current church building. The colored panels depict the scene at the foot of the cross. The center panel of the tableaux features the lifeless body of the crucified Jesus in the arms of His Sorrowful Mother, with St. John supporting the Savior’s shoulder and, at His feet, St. Mary Magdalene. The two sections framing this panel depict two angels amidst lilies, one holding a burning heart, the other, a cross. This piece of Seton’s history is now illuminated for prayer and meditation whenever the church is open for visitation. An add-ed benefit is that light is now provided in what was previously a dark section of the building.

Thank you!

Due of the central importance of Easter to the Christian faith, the Catholic Church requires that all Catholics who have made their First Communion receive the Holy Eucha-rist sometime during the Easter season, which lasts through Pentecost Sunday, 50 days after Easter (Church Law extends the time when this duty may be fulfilled until Trinity Sunday, an extra week!). They should also take part in the Sacrament of Penance before receiving this Easter Communion. This reception of the Eucharist is a visible sign of our faith and our participation in the Kingdom of God. Of course, we should receive Communion as frequently as possible (as long as we are in the state of grace); this "Easter Duty" is simply the minimum requirement set by the Church.

We meet today, Sunday, April 15th at 2pm in the Chapel.

Last Monday of the Month Parish Council

Jackie Engelhart reminds all council members to mark Mon-day, April 30th on their calendars. If you can’t be present, please contact the rectory. We meet in the Chapel at 7:30 PM. Parishioners are welcome to attend.

Anyone with current/former law en-forcement/security experience, who is willing to be part of a committee for this undertaking is invited to call Mary Ellen at the Parish Office, 914-528-3547, ext. 0. Thank You!

Jesus Wants You! Popes have emphasized Adoration of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist as a powerful means for receiving special graces. Start this East-er Season to make it a habit of visiting Jesus in Our Lady’s Chap-el, weekdays from 12 Noon till 3 PM. Jesus asks us as he did Peter in the Garden of Gethsemane: ”Can’t you watch just one hour with me?” Many of your fellow parishioners (45) have al-ready committed to 1 hour a week, will you do the same? Adorers are needed Wednesday and Thursday from 12-1PM, as well as Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fri-day from 1-2PM. Adoration is simply praying to God in front of the exposed Blessed Sacrament bringing Him your fears, con-cerns, problems or simply thanking Him for all He has done in your life. Please make an effort to “watch one hour a week with Jesus”! Call Alex on 845-526-4495 if you can make one hour or 1/2 hour a week. You will not be alone. If you can’t make it one week there will always be alternates to help.

A Note about Becoming Sponsors For Baptism and Confirmation

It is a great honor to be asked to be a sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation. The role of a “godparent” is to be an “other parent” in matters of our holy Faith. That is why sponsors must be practicing Catholics, 16 years of age or older (14 years old in the Archdiocese of New York), having received Catholic Confirmation and currently living a good Christian moral life. If the sponsor is married, that person must be in a valid Catholic Church marriage. One sponsor is required for Confirmation. It is customary to have two for Baptism, in which case one must be male and the other female. Parents may not be sponsors. A baptized non-Catholic may replace the second Baptism sponsor as a Christian witness. Non-Christians may not be Sponsors. Former Catholics may not be sponsors. A nominated sponsor is asked to get certification from his/her current parish. This is a declaration by a priest/deacon that the individual is qualified to be a sponsor according to Church Law. To be so certified, the individual must be a current parishioner of the particular parish where the certification is being sought, and be known to the priest/deacon as being a faithful practicing Cath-olic, attending Mass there weekly. Those away at college or graduate school or in the military should seek certification from their campus ministries or chaplains. Unfortunately, at times, family members or friends are cho-sen to be sponsors with good intentions, but are found to be ineligible according to Church Law. Also, more and more, people seem to think that they are still “parishioners” of their childhood parish, where they attended school or re-ceived sacraments years ago, while no longer living in the area or attending Mass there regularly. It is important for all individuals to be active members of their local Catholic faith communities. Here, at Seton, Certificates of Sponsorship are given by the pastor to registered members of the parish who are practicing Catholics, and who meet the above criteria. Please see the pastor after Mass on Saturday evening or Sunday to inquire about getting a certificate.
