Greetings from the Chairman by Gregory E. Grim

TSA Pre™ is an expedited screen-ing initiative that is expanding to airports across the country. Implementing a key component of the agency’s intelligence-driven, risk-based approach to security, TSA Pre™ enhances aviation security by placing more focus on pre-screening individuals who volunteer to participate to expedite the travel experience.

TSA is partnering with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as well as U.S. air carriers as part of this initiative. Certain frequent travelers from Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, US Airways and certain members of CBP’s Trusted Traveler programs, including Global Entry, SENTRI, and NEXUS who are U.S. citizens are eligible to participate when they are booked on a participating

airline. As of November 15, 2012, Canadian citizens traveling domestically in the United States who are members of NEXUS are also qualified to participate in TSA Pre™. In addition, passengers 12 and younger are allowed through TSA Pre™ lanes with eligible passengers.

Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and US Airways are contacting eligible frequent travelers with an invitation to opt-in. Once the passenger opts in, the airline identifies the individual as a TSA Pre™ participant when submitting passenger reservation information to TSA’s Secure Flight system. Philadelphia Airport offers expedited screening for United Airlines and US Airways. LaGuardia Airport in New York offers expedited screening for American Airlines and Delta Airlines; JFK International offers expedited screening for American Airlines, and Newark Airport offers expedited screening for United Airlines.

New Screening Initiative to Speed Things up at Airports

Teaching Your Children About Traffic SafetyGood safety habits that will last them a lifetime

Driving always demands our full attention, but it is

especially important at this time of year.

After nine, long months of school, children will

soon be celebrating the freedom of summer vacation. The

warm sunshine beckons them to play ball, ride bikes, or cool off in the sprinkler. Children may be so distracted by the pastimes of summer, they become oblivious to the risks of traffic rolling by.

Parents should never forget that children often have very little concept of the speed, weight, and power of a vehicle. They are particularly vulnerable because they are harder for motorists to see and their actions can be unpredictable. Children also tend to think that if they see a driver, the driver also sees them.

Young children may not have the cognitive maturity to judge when it’s safe to cross a street and are less likely to understand the consequences of their misjudgments. They may not stop and think before darting between parked cars or chasing a ball into the street.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), about 300 children 15 and younger are hit and killed each year while walking in what should be their safe haven — their neighborhood. In 2010, the last year that statistics are available, almost one fifth of the children between the ages of age 5 of 9 killed in traffic crashes were pedestrians.

The majority of preschool and elementary-school-age pedestrian injuries and deaths usually occur near the child’s home. Darting out into the street without looking is one of the most common mistakes children make, and one of the most deadly.

Parents should never expect too much, too soon.

NHTSA research psychologists report that parents’ or caretakers’ unrealistic expectations are a contributing factor in many child pedestrian tragedies.

Learn to recognize a child’s limitations. Their peripheral vision for example, is approximately one-third narrower than an adult’s. They have difficulty judging a car’s speed and distance or may mistakenly believe a car can stop instantly.

While children may not have the judgment to cope with traffic by themselves, they can learn safety rules. Teaching children how to cross the street properly is essential. Parents must work with their kids and get them in the habit of always stopping at the edge of the street, looking left, then right, then left again to make sure the road is clear. This is the golden rule of traffic safety and it is essential for children to learn it at an early age.

Find places away from streets, driveways, and parking lots for children to play. Fenced yards, parks, and playgrounds are good choices. Children also should be taught to ask an adult to retrieve any toys that roll into the street.

Establish where young children can use wheeled toys such as tricycles, bicycles, wagons, or scooters.

AAA recommends that parents set age- appropriate limits on where their children can walk or bike safely. As in all parenting, the do-as-I-say method works best when parents set a good example. Children will recognize when you are obeying the speed limits and giving right of way to pedestrians. Chances are, if you obey traffic signals, cross the street properly, and wear a helmet when riding a bike, so will your children. These are good safety habits that will last them a lifetime.

Our children deserve the best protection we can provide. As a motorist you can make a real difference just by staying alert and taking extra care while driving where children are present.

As travelers cross state lines for celebrations with families and friends, they need to be aware of differing state laws on texting and talking on a cell phone. AAA urges motorists to research laws prior to their road trip.

Across the RegionThe National Highway Traffic Safety

Administration reports that more than 3,000 people are killed and nearly half a million are injured each year in crashes involving distraction. Distracted driving laws vary from state to state and in some cases even city to city. Some states also have additional restrictions for teenage drivers. Here are the basics adult drivers should know about distracted driving regulations in the region.

• Pennsylvania – Texting while driving is banned for all drivers. Violators face a $50 fine.

• ohio – Texting while driving is a secondary offense in Ohio, meaning drivers will only be stopped if cited for another violation, such as speeding or running a red light. The fine for texting while driving can be up to $150. In addition, several Ohio towns and cities ban

handheld cell phone use while driving. These fines vary by town.

• new york - Handheld cell phone usage and texting are both banned if the person is driving. The fine for either violation is $150.

• delaware – All drivers are prohibited from text messaging and handheld cell phone use. This is a primary offense. Learner’s permit and inter-mediate license holders are subject to a complete ban on cell phone use. School bus drivers are prohibited from using cell phones while driving, except in emergencies and while parked. Drivers caught using a hand-held device will be fined $106 ($50 base fine with fees) for their first offense, with subsequent penalties reaching up to $350 with fees.

• new Jersey – No person shall use a hand held phone or engage in text messaging while driving. Special learner’s permit, examination permit, and probationary license holders are subject to a complete ban on cell phone use. Drivers who talk or text on a handheld cell phone while driving face a fine. Motorists violating the primary law face a $100 fine plus court costs and fees.

Keep Distractions at Bay AAA recommends that drivers follow best

practices and avoid all forms of distracted driving, if possible. Suggestions include:

• Plan ahead. Read maps, plug your destination into your GPS and check traffic conditions before you get on the road.

• Adjust seats, mirrors, climate controls, sound systems and other devices before driving.

• Stow electronic devices out of sight and out of reach, such as in a closed glove compartment. If you must call, text or email, pull over and park in a safe place first.

• Secure children and pets before getting underway. If they need your attention, pull off the road safely to care for them.

• Eat meals or snacks before or after your trip, not while driving.

• Store or fasten loose gear or possessions that could roll around.

• Finish dressing and personal grooming before you start driving.

• Focus on the road. Use your mirrors. Notice pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles.

industry. All professional agents are licensed by the state they work in to sell insurance after taking a comprehensive class and passing a state-issued exam. Insurance professionals also are required to keep up-to-date with the many changes in the industry by taking continuing education classes prior to license renewals. In addition, when an agent is hired by AAA East Central to sell auto and home insurance (or Property and Casualty in insurance jargon), they are required to take a month-long, in-house training class to become experts on the products they sell. They are taught how to interpret the policy language and how it applies to the person purchasing that coverage.

Contrary to what some insurance companies try to tell you in their com-mercials, purchasing insurance should not be a quick transaction. It takes some time for a good insurance agent to help

you decide on the adequate coverages to protect yourself and your family. During a compre-hensive insurance review, an agent will take into account your income, your assets, your respon- sibilities, as well as your plans for the future, to determine what your insurance needs may be. The agent will then review your current coverages to help you evaluate whether they are appropriate for your current situation. An agent will know the questions to ask, be able to answer any of yours and help you decipher insurance jargon. By the time the conversation ends, you’ll be able to make an informed choice about your insurance coverage options.

You’ll also know that every time you have a significant life change, you can confidently reach out to the agent you

trust to make important decisions regarding your insurance coverage.

Trust AAA to steer you right on all your current and future Auto, Home and Life insurance needs. Combining your coverages with one insurance company could make a significant difference in your premium. Planning a trip the whole family will enjoy is easier when you let AAA’s travel professionals help point the way with expert recommendations. To select their top picks for key family travel destinations, AAA editors became kids again. With an eye toward finding options for tots to teens, they visited and played at countless attractions touted as kid friendly — many designated as AAA GEMs, offering a Great Experience for Members — along with notable restaurants and events. This family-friendly content is available in AAA’s popular digital and printed travel guides for select destinations.

The key to a successful family vacation is planning activities that are fun and exciting for every member of your group, recognizing that what’s exciting to a 6-year old can differ from what appeals to teens. Recommen-dations from our editors help make these distinctions, ensuring easier travel planning and memorable vacation experiences. New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC all provide a multitude of experiences to keep the whole family happy!

New York City Top Picks for Kids under 13

At FAO Schwarz, kids can dance on a musical keyboard, create their own Muppet or gape at life-size stuffed animals. Girls squeal in excitement at American Girl Place, where dolls are decked out in fashionable accessories and can visit the hospital or hair salon. Toys “R” Us in Times Square also amuses kids with a Ferris wheel, menacing T-Rex and enormous Barbie dollhouse.

Broadway typically runs plays suitable for the 12 and under set—“The Lion King,” “Mary Poppins” and “Spider Man” are safe bets. For preschoolers try to catch one of the public weekend shows at Puppetworks in Brooklyn, where the colorful, captivating puppetry is based on fairytales and children’s stories.

Frequently changing hands-on exhibits capture the imaginations of little ones at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, inspiring creativity, learning and just plain fun. The Brooklyn Children’s Museum is also a great place for kids and their families to bond as they explore subjects like the arts, science, environment and culture.

After a Midtown shopping excursion, reward patient kids with a trip to Serendipity 3 (225 E. 60th), where the frozen hot chocolate, old-fashioned sundaes and other decadent treats are sure to delight. Just a stone’s throw away at Third Avenue and E. 60th, Dylan’s Candy Bar is a Willy Wonka wonderland with jellybeans, lollipops, chocolates and all sweet things imaginable.

For TeensActive teens have a blast at Chelsea

Piers, a waterfront sports village that also does a fine job of pleasing parents. Popular diversions include ice skating rinks, a bowling alley, batting cages and a 30-foot-high rock climbing wall constructed especially for minors. Junior duffers are intrigued by golf-swing simulators and by an outdoor

driving range overlooking the Hudson River.

Given the fascination that today’s youth has with movies and videos, the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens manages to inspire with vintage equipment and film-related articles such as a genuine Yoda from “Star Wars” and molds used to build a King Kong action figure. Visitors can also learn about the creation of TV shows, movies and digital entertainment.

Central Park has many entice-ments for teens, from the more basic pleasures of street music per formances and heavenly food truck snacks, to a number of extraordinary landmarks. The antics of sea lions and penguins provoke lots of laughs at the zoo, while some relish the pilgrimage to John Lennon’s memorial, Strawberry Fields.

Where there is water, there are good times. With the East River as a shimmering back drop, South Street Seaport Museum offers bike rentals, water taxi access, a museum and historic ships available for touring. Circle Line Cruises provides a variety of sightseeing tours, and Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum showcases the famous aircraft carrier docked on the Hudson’s Pier 86.

Washington, DC Top Picks for Kidsunder 13

Hands down, the most fun museum for kids in D.C. is the National Museum of Natural History. From the trumpeting African elephant in the center of the rotunda to the life-size humpback whale suspended in Ocean Hall, there’s no shortage of things to make them ooh and aah. Kids will especially love the dinosaur skeletons and the up-close encounters with multicolored members of the order Lepidoptera at the Butterfly Pavilion.

Let kids run off excess energy at the National Mall, then take a spin on the Smithsonian carousel in front of the Arts and Industries Building. The painted ponies may be faded, but this vintage merry-go-round with its tinkling calliope music remains an old-fashioned pleasure.

The Rock Creek Park Nature Center and Planetarium is a great place to learn about the animals that live in the park’s 2,000 acres of woodland. The center’s Discovery Room has plenty of hands-on activities, and a beehive behind glass on the back wall offers a first-hand view of these industrious insects at work.

For TeensNot just a resting place for old

postage stamps, the National Postal Museum has interactive exhibits that enable you to do things like create and send postcards or take a seat in a mail-delivering stagecoach. For teens more accustomed to texting than letter writing, exploring the history of mail going back to Colonial times will be eye-opening as well as educational.

Georgetown will appeal to fashion-conscious guys and gals. In addition to a selection of trendy clothes, Urban Outfitters (3111 M St. N.W.) has gift items like funky iPad stands and stick-on moustaches. Girls flock to Betsey Johnson (3029 M St. N.W.) for frothy pink party dresses, cap-sleeved tops, wraparound ankle pumps and other stylish must-haves. Thomas Sweet (on P Street just off Wisconsin Avenue) is a favorite stop for ice cream treats.

Burgers and fries along with blasting Katy Perry and LMFAO? That’s what makes the Hard Rock Cafe such a fun place. Music memorabilia on display includes the red leather jacket worn by the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, in the video for his huge hit “Beat It.”

Philadelphia Top Picks for Kidsunder 13

Thrill wee ones by taking a trip to Sesame Place in nearby Lang horne. Rides and waterslides entertain tots, as do huggable Sesame Street friends like Big Bird, Abby Cadabby, Elmo and Cookie Monster. For an educational experience that’s also tons of fun, attend the Neighborhood Street Party parade.

Ages 5-12 will have a blast at The Franklin Institute. The Train Factory mesmerizes young conductors as they learn about operating a 350-ton locomotive, while aspiring astronauts can command a mission and examine

space expedition equipment. Kids can also walk through a two-story-high giant heart with sound and lighting effects, peer through a telescope in the fourth-floor observatory or discover their inner athlete at the Sports Challenge.

• The Please Touch Museum in Fairmount Park amuses young children with interactive exhibits that stimulate learning through touching and playing. Adventures include exploring a neighborhood in City Capers, experimenting with balance at Flight Fantasy or winding through Wonderland’s maze.

For Teens• Teens love intrigue, and they’ll

find it at Ghost Tours of Philadel-phia. And what’s more, they’ll be exposed to a little history in addition to pondering such dilemmas as whether Edgar Allan Poe’s spirit lingers in the Old City. Guides con-duct a candlelit stroll past Philly’s spooky nooks and

crannies, telling tales of haunted houses and ghostly encounters. And, of course, there’s the requisite cemetery stop.

• Philadelphia is known for its iconic treats, and Reading Terminal Market is the perfect venue in which to sample the city’s delectable tidbits. In this enclosed historic farmers' market built underneath the Reading Railroad’s train shed in 1892, you’ll find everything from cheesesteaks to soft pretzels to whoopie pies.

• Guided tours aboard the cruiser Olympia and the World War II submarine Becuna at the Independence Seaport Museum spark the imagination of students as they investigate these historic vessels. The “What Floats Your Boat?” display inside the museum

features hands-on activities that illustrate the concepts of speed and gravity and explore subjects like design and construction.

• For a buggy endeavor, head to The Insectarium, a museum devoted entirely to creepy-crawlies. Yes, you can handle some of the live creatures if you choose, but if you’d rather admire them from afar there are plenty of exhibits, including mounted specimens. Some are interesting and educational, like the working beehive, and some are concocted more for dramatic effect, like

a cockroach kitchen swarming with hundreds of the dreaded insects. Yikes!

AAA’s Top Picks for Kids are currently available for 19 U.S. cities coast to coast, including Orlando, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. Orlando’s popularity as a family vacation destination is as solid as ever. There’s too much going on for it to ever get boring and stale. It helps that the theme parks and attractions try to outdo each other for your business, because every year brings new exhibits that are bigger, better, faster and more thrilling than last year’s offerings.

If you’ve been wondering what new attractions are waiting for you in Orlando, we have a sampling of what’s coming up.

SeaWorldSeaWorld is preparing for

the opening of their newest exhibit. Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin on May 24, and it is guaranteed to become a must-see Orlando attraction.

The exhibit is meant to be experienced through the penguins’ eyes. It’s an exhilarating, first-of-its-kind family ride. Stepping out, visitors can explore a massive penguin colony in an expanse that envelops them in cool extremes, both above and below the penguins’ icy world. It’s the biggest and

most expansive attraction in SeaWorld’s history and will thrill and chill you to your very bone!

Fans wanting to explore even more of SeaWorld’s thrilling, chilling new adventure of a lifetime should download the free Antarctica app, available now for iPhones, iPads and Android devices. The app can be downloaded at SeaWorldOrlando.com/Antarctica.

The app is full of incredible create-and-share videos and photos, where fans can swim, march and dance with penguins. They can place their face onto an Antarctic explorer. And the best part? All of videos and photos can easily be shared with family and friends through social media channels -- Facebook, Twitter and You Tube – and can be emailed, too.

The app is also the place to get the cold, hard facts about penguins and Antarctica, watch incredible behind-the-scenes teaser videos about the “making of” SeaWorld Orlando’s newest attraction, Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin.  Fans can even enter the Family Voyage Sweepstakes to win a trip to Orlando!

Walt Disney World® ResortIn March, Disney announced plans

for Disney Springs, the exciting, multi-year transformation of Downtown Disney at the Walt Disney World Resort. Visitors have enjoyed Downtown Disney for 30 years, but Disney imagineers are right now hard at work reinventing this corner of the resort.

The goal is to create a welcoming, comfortable space where families can enjoy time together and instantaneously feel right at home. The overall Disney

Springs experience will draw inspiration from the turn-of-the-century lakeside towns that dotted the Florida landscape.

Construction begins this spring, with new areas opening in phases. The entire project is scheduled for completion in 2016. Once open, there will be twice as many shops, restaurants and other venues — about 150 establishments in all.

Disney Springs will include four outdoor neighborhoods: Town Center, The Landing, Marketplace and West Side. All will be connected by a flowing spring and lakefront.

Town Center will offer shopping and dining venues, plus a promenade.

The commercial district known as The Landing will feature inspired dining and views of the beautiful waterfront.

The centerpiece of Marketplace is an over-the-water pedestrian walkway and an expanded World of Disney store.

Lively entertainment is the focus at the West Side, with a series of elevated spaces offering cooling shade plus a great view of the activity below.

Plans are in the works for a new gateway and signature water tower at Disney Springs, as well.

Non-Stop to Orlando/Sanford, Tampa/St. Petersburg & Myrtle Beach!

Kennedy Space Center

There is a lot happening east of Orlando at the Kennedy Space Cen-ter. For instance, Angry Birds are flying from the digital screen to the hands-on real world at Kennedy Space Cen-ter Visitor Complex’s Angry Birds Space Encounter.

The brand new exhibit, which opened in March, is accessed through the Angry Birds wormhole. Inside, guests can experience any of the seven interactive exhibits.

One of the exhibits--Create Your Own Angry Bird—allows you to make a customized Angry Bird on a computer screen. Cold Cuts Tile Puzzle is another exhibit, where different levels of complex puzzles challenge guests. At the Eggsteriod Slingshot exhibit, launching small Angry Birds at pigs can score points.

Guests will also enjoy weaving their way through the Danger Zone mirror maze and the Red Planet Laser Challenge, then move to Game Zone area. Family members have the

opportunity to remember the experience when they use the green screen photo area to select an Angry Birds background for an individual or family photograph.

The new exhibit is included in regular admission to the Visitor Complex.

Kennedy Space Center is also the new permanent home for the recently retired space shuttle Atlantis. Opening

day for the $100 million exhibit is June 29.

The six-story, 90,000-square-foot exhibit building is located in the Shuttle Plaza. It is as amazing as the shuttle itself. At the entrance to the Atlantis exhibit, guests walk underneath a full-size replica space shuttle external tank flanked by two solid rocket boosters.

Inside is the Atlantis. Currently, the orbiter is wrapped to preserve its natural state when it last returned to Earth. When the exhibit opens, the Atlantis will be suspended from the ceiling and visitors can peek inside the payload doors. A full-scale replica of the Hubble Space Telescope, which the Atlantis repaired in orbit, will be suspended nearby. There will also be simulators, a live feed from the International Space Station and other interactive displays to tell the story of the 30-year space shuttle program.

universal Orlando ResortUniversal Orlando Resort’s next

blockbuster attraction opening will be the widely-popular TRANSFORMERS: The Ride – 3D. The groundbreaking ride, created under license from Hasbro, Inc. and based on its iconic TRANSFORMERS

brand – will bring the intergalactic battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons to Universal Studios Florida this summer.

Already a “must-see” at Universal Studios Singapore and Universal Studios Hollywood, TRANSFORMERS: The Ride – 3D is a mind-blowing, action-packed ride experience that you have to see to believe. You will come face to face with Megatron. You will dodge explosions and attacks by the Decepticons. You will fight to save mankind alongside Optimus Prime and the Autobots.

Universal worked closely with Michael Bay, the award-wining director of the “TRANSFORMERS” film series and the ride’s creative consultant, to create an authentic experience that brings the non-stop action of the films to life. The attraction combines the larger-than-life TRANSFORMERS characters and an exciting storyline with life-like HD CGI media, state-of-the-art 3-D technology and amazing special effects to place riders right in the middle of an epic battle between good and evil.

It will be the greatest battle you’ll ever ride.

Uniworld christened their newest ship, Queen Isabel, on March 22 in Porto, Portugal. On hand to serve as godmother was the actress Andie MacDowell. Best known for her starring roles in the 1990s movies “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “Groundhog Day,” Mac-Dowell is familiar to most as the face of L’Oreal cosmetics.

The 118-passenger Queen Isabel will sail Uniworld’s 10-day Portugal, Spain and the Douro River itinerary. The ship features 18 junior suites at 215 square feet each, and two suites at 323 square feet each, all with full balconies. The staterooms on the main deck have French balconies. Public areas include a lounge with full-service bar, an outdoor bar, a restaurant with an outside dining area, a sun deck with swimming pool and a fitness and spa area.

Duchess of Cambridge named as godmother of Royal Princess

Princess Cruises’ newest ship, the Royal Princess, will be officially named by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge. The grand ceremony will take place in South-ampton, England on June 13. Royal Princess will arrive at Ocean Terminal in Southampton, England on Friday, June 7 for a week of festivities before the official inauguration ceremony. After two short preview cruises, the ship will embark on a maiden voyage on June 16, followed by Grand Mediterranean cruises throughout the summer and Eastern Caribbean cruises beginning in the fall.

Innovations to mark June debut of Royal Princess

When the Royal Princess debuts in June, the ship will attract attention for its many striking features, including a soaring atrium and the dramatic over-the-water Sea-Walk. But what may

Crystal Cruises expands Kids Sail Free program

Crystal Cruises is growing its Kids Sail Free program from four voyages to 21. Kids aged 17 and under can sail free when sharing a stateroom with two adults. Now included in the program are seven- to 15-day voyages in the Mediterranean, Western Europe, North Cape, Baltic, British Isles, Canary Islands, and across the Atlantic from May to December aboard Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony.

For this growing population of “junior cruisers,” Crystal will add Magic Castle at Sea shows and classes during summer cruises. Every Crystal cruise also offers family-friendly learning and entertainment, including iPad Digital Filmmaking classes (in association with USC’s School of Cinematic Arts) and dedicated on-board kids and teens spaces.

Ten Viking longships christened

In a simultaneous and cross-simulcast ceremony that spanned 320 miles of Europe, 10 Viking River Cruises long ships were christened in the port of Amsterdam and the shipyards of Rostock, Germany in March.

As temperatures hovered near the freezing mark in both places, the Alta, Forseti, Jarl, Rinda and Var were christened in Rostock. Then the Aegir, Embla, Bragi and Skadi were officially named under the watchful eyes of more than 700 travel agents, partners, shipping officials and press.

Oasis of the Seas to sail in Europe in 2014

Royal Caribbean has just announced that the world’s largest ship, the Oasis of the Seas, will be sailing Europe for a short autumn season in 2014. Guests will sail the Atlantic and Western Mediterranean and delight in Oasis-class exclusive amenities and concepts through its seven themed neigh-borhoods , such as an 82-foot-long zip line, a handcrafted carousel, the Rising Tide elevating bar, Broadway musicals, the Aquatheatre high-diving per-formance venue, and Central Park with more than 12,000 live trees and plants.

“Now vacationers can combine Europe’s rich cultures and history with the world’s largest and most innovative cruise ship for a regional experience that can only be found on Royal Caribbean, “

says Lisa Bauer, executive vice president of Global Sales and Marketing for Royal Caribbean. “And for those who have always wanted more time to enjoy the myriad activities on Oasis of the Seas, our two trans-Atlantic cruises will offer more than enough time to do everything onboard, as well as some surprises along the way.”

There are three Europe sailings from which to choose: two roundtrip sailings on a five-night Western Mediterranean itinerary from Barcelona, and a seven-night Spain itinerary sailing from Barcelona to Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Additionally, a two-night Bahamas cruise departing on August 30 and a five-night Western Caribbean cruise departing on October 27, both roundtrip from Port Everglades, Florida will bookend Oasis of the Seas’ short 2014 Europe season.

Along with exclusive AAA Member Benefits, AAA Travel is also proud to announce that we can provide our past travelers and members with additional savings when you return to AAA Travel to book your next vacation! These offers have different names from Bounce Back to AAA, to Come Back Soon, to Past Passenger Savings but they all are the same — a reward or additional savings for your loyalty as a AAA Travel Customer. Savings and benefits vary based on your trip length and destination and restrictions apply, so call your AAA Travel Professional for details. Most bounce back savings apply to new reservations booked and deposited within 12 months of the original vacation. Your AAA Travel Agent also receives notices on any points, perks or loyalty programs that may apply to your next resort holiday so they can save you time researching these savings.

Some resorts or cruise lines may also offer you savings if you book at the resort before you leave, or onboard your cruise ship. Booking your next holiday while away may eat in to your valuable family or vacation time. If you do decide to do so, please contact your AAA Travel Agent immediately when you return so we can apply any additional savings and AAA member benefits to your reservation. If you book while at Disney, for example, you only have 30 days to contact AAA Travel to apply your additional benefits or savings. Other resorts may require that you sign a release form upon your return or at the resort. This will allow our AAA agents to assist with your travel planning including securing your flight arrangements, counseling you on your insurance purchase to assure that all of the components of your reservation are protected, booking your dining reservations, or assisting with your shore excursions and documentation.

Pleasant Holidays If you booked your Europe, Hawaii or South Pacific, USA, Caribbean/Mexico, Costa Rica vacation or American Queen Steamboat Cruise with AAA Travel and you come back to book again to one of these destinations, you will receive up to $100 off per booking in addition to your AAA Member Benefits which include activity/shore excursion credits of up to $50 per booking, additional discounts of up to $50 per booking, and cabin credits.

Walt Disney World Resort® From time to time, while staying at

an on-site resort, you may receive a call or handout encouraging you to rebook your next Disney resort vacation before you leave. Most of these on-site booking offers are for return travel in the same year and are a percentage savings or dollars off. It’s not uncommon for our members to actually call our offices while at the resort to compare these offers to our AAA Magic Moments member benefit offer which could provide a better value. If you do decide to book during your stay, please con-tact your AAA Travel Professional immediately upon your return so we can add your applicable member benefits to your package. These could include the AAA Vacations® Diamond Savings Card offering savings of 10%, 15% or 20% at participating locations throughout the Walt Disney World Resort®, Disney’s Story Time Experience, and our preferred Fireworks Viewing Location in the Magic Kingdom®. But don’t hesitate because you can only transfer your bookings to AAA which are not paid in full, and this request

Disney Cruise LineWhile you are on your cruise, you

may have an opportunity to book another Disney Cruise at a reduced price, or the cruise line may offer you a percentage off savings or onboard credit as an incentive to book while onboard. In the event that you do book your next cruise vacation while on board, please mention that AAA Travel, AAA East Central, is your travel agent. If you do this we will be able to service your account and help with any other related details — provide information and advice, book flights, hotel rooms, rental cars, and help plan shore excur-sions. But, most import-antly, only AAA Travel can add your AAA member benefits to your cruise booking. For Disney Cruise Line the member benefit is an exclusive photo package. And, if you think you might book on board, your AAA Travel Agent can provide you with a voucher in advance for the Future Cruise Sales Desk to automatically apply your AAA member benefits, and send the booking confirmation to your travel agent so you get the best of both worlds.

Royal Caribbean InternationalRoyal Caribbean offers its past cruisers, who the line calls Crown and Anchor® Society members, NEXT CRUISE OPTIONS if you book your next cruise while you are still onboard your current cruise. Royal Caribbean's onboard offer is extremely flexible - you receive up to a $200 onboard booking bonus plus a reduced deposit of $100, and you have a “decide now” or “decide later” option. What that means is, if you book onboard your cruise and put down a $100 per person deposit, no additional deposits are due until your final payment. You have plenty of time to make up your mind because this offer doesn’t expire, but, if you decide on a date and itinerary within 30 days of your return, you can “share the wealth” and extend this offer to three additional cabins. Royal Caribbean will notify your AAA Travel Agent that you booked onboard, but please also give us a call when you get back so we can add any additional AAA member benefits that may apply to your reservation.

Sandals/Beaches Resorts in the Caribbean

Prior to leaving on your trip, your AAA Travel agent can provide you with a release form if you decide to book at Sandal or Beaches Resorts. However, we encourage you to enjoy your valuable vacation time, and to come back to us when you return to book with your past traveler savings. When you enroll in the Sandals/Beaches past guest program, you receive an additional $250 savings towards your next stay, and bonus points for joining (restrictions apply). Your AAA Travel Agent can work on your behalf to assure that these savings are

If TSA determines a passenger is eligible for expedited screening, information is embedded in the barcode of the passenger’s boarding pass. TSA reads the barcode at designated checkpoints and the passenger may be referred to a lane where they will undergo expedited screening, which could include no longer removing the following items:

• Shoes• 3-1-1 compliant bag from carry-on• Laptop from bag• Light outerwear/jacket• Belt

In addition, passengers 12 years and younger are allowed through TSA Pre™ lanes with eligible passengers.

TSA will always incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.

At this time, TSA Pre™ is only available for passengers traveling domestically on participating airlines. If any leg of an itinerary is international, the passenger will not qualify for TSA Pre™ for that itinerary and will go through traditional screening.

The Ford /AAA Student Auto Skills Competition fosters young people’s interest in the automotive industry through a spirited nationwide com-petition with opportunities to win prizes, scholarships, tools and awards along with an experience that could help shape the future of their careers.

The competition consists of two-person teams of 11th and 12th grade automotive technology students attending secondary schools and colleges (serving local high schools) with at least one full-time or part-time automotive instructor.

Everyone who registers for the competition gets the opportunity to demonstrate their automotive know-ledge and qualify for prizes by taking a written exam. Those students scoring the highest (typically the top ten teams) participate in a “hands-on” competition within their respective state, challenging students to diagnose and fix uniformly “bugged” new Ford vehicles as quickly as possible while ensuring quality workmanship.

The winning two-person team from each state is recognized with scholarships, tools, and awards, and, along with their instructor, are provided an expense-paid trip to the national

The results of AAA’s annual Your Driving Costs study were recently released and revealed a 1.96 percent increase in the cost to own and operate a sedan in the United States. The average cost rose 1.17 cents to 60.8 cents per mile, or $9,122 per year, based upon 15,000 miles of annual driving. Many factors go into the cost calculation of owning and operating a vehicle. This year, changes in main-tenance, fuel and insurance costs resulted in the increase to just over 60 cents a mile. In-depth findings of this year’s study, including a breakdown of specific costs by category of vehicle and various annual mileages, are contained in the Your Driving Costs brochure which is available at the Allentown, Bethlehem, Lansdale and Royersford AAA branch offices or may be downloaded at www.AAA.com/news. Copies may also be obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped, legal-size envelope to: AAA Your Driving Costs, P.O. Box 1910, Allentown, PA 18105-1910.

Before you make any vehicle purchase, it is important to determine ownership and operational costs and compare them to your current and future financial situation. To assist consumers in determining their individual driving costs, the AAA's Your Driving Costs brochure contains a worksheet that can be filled out and personalized for a specific area, driver and vehicle.

Maintenance Costs up 11.26 Percent The costs associated with maintain-ing a vehicle had the single largest percentage increase from 2012 to 2013, growing by 11.26 percent to 4.97 cents per mile on average for sedan owners. AAA’s estimates are based upon the cost to maintain a vehicle and perform needed repairs for five years and 75,000 miles including labor expenses, replacement part prices and the purchase of an extended warranty policy. Driving the increase in maintenance costs is significant in-creases in labor and parts costs for some

models and a major increase in the price of extended warranty policies due to high loss ratios by underwriters.

Fuel Costs up 1.93 Percent Gasoline prices were relatively stable compared to the prior year, leading to a minimal fuel cost increase of 1.93 percent to 14.45 cents per mile on average for sedan owners. The average cost of regular grade fuel (used by most of the study vehicles) actually rose 3.84 percent, from $3.357 to $3.486 per gallon. However, several vehicles in the ‘Your Driving Costs’ study had small improvements in their fuel economy ratings which partially offset the fuel cost increase. Fuel costs in the 2013 study were calculated using the national average price for regular, unleaded gasoline during the fourth quarter of 2012.

Tire Costs Remain unchanged The cost of tires did not change from 2012 to 2013, remaining at one cent per mile on average for sedan owners. The stable price is attributed to a leveling off of past increased costs for raw materials, energy and transportation from factories to distributors across the country.

Insurance Costs up 2.76 Percent Average insurance costs for sedans rose 2.76 percent (or $28) to $1029 annually. Insurance rates vary widely by driver and driving record, issuing company and geographical region. AAA

insurance cost estimates are based on a low-risk driver with a clean driving record. Quotes from five AAA clubs and insurance companies representing seven states showed across-the-board modest increases for all sedan sizes, with large cars having less of an increase than small- and medium-size sedans.

Depreciation Costs Rise .78 Percent After seeing a drop in 2012, depreciation costs were up slightly in 2013, increasing .78 percent to $3,571 a year. This change may be a consequence of recovering new vehicle sales, resulting in more used cars available in the marketplace and thus the softening of the resale value of clean older models.

63rd Year of Your Driving Costs Study AAA has published ‘Your Driving Costs’ since 1950. That year, driving a car 10,000 miles per year cost nine cents per mile, and gasoline sold for 27 cents per gallon. The Your Driving Costs study employs a proprietary AAA meth-odology to analyze the cost to own and operate a vehicle in the United States. Variable operating costs considered in the study include fuel, maintenance and repair, and tires. Fixed ownership costs factored into the results include insurance, license and registration fees, taxes, depreciation and finance charges. Ownership costs are calculated based on the purchase of a new vehicle that is driven over five years and 75,000 miles. Your actual operating costs may vary.
