International Driving License scam

There is currently a Driving License scam circulating and it is important that you are aware of it. In other parts of the UK, refugees have fallen foul of this scam and lost a lot of money.

What is known is that people have applied for an “International Driving Licence” from America. These cost £480 each and applications are made online with a follow up call from someone based in America asking a couple of questions. Once these have been answered, the person is asked to transfer money in return for an “International Driving License”. This is a scam.

For your information, there are such things as International Driving Permits to allow you to drive abroad, but they are applied for in the country of residence as you need to already hold a national driving licence. So for refugees resettled in the UK, who intend to drive abroad, they would need a UK Driving License first and then apply for an International Driving Permit, not an “International Driver’s License”.

Do not apply for an International Driving License. Be vigilant. If you have been contacted or sent information about this scam it must be reported it to the police.
