East Los Angeles College Passing Game

We have five types of passing schemes in our offensive system, 3step, 5step, Sprint Out, PAP and Quick Screens. Our 3 steppackages and 5 step packages is short to intermediate with an occasional vertical stretch. The play-action pass covers allphases of our run game. The quick screen game will put athletes in space and focus on one on one mismatches.

Our offensive approach will be to emphasize mismatches in a multitude of sets and formations and motions with a diversepassing structure, and off of this we will include backs out for situational purposes. As a receiver you must understand theimportance of what the defense is giving you, and how to attack it.

Our play terminology is based with the numbering system or a specific tag. Each name and number represents a particularroute. Each route for the most part will have a coverage adjustment, which needs to be made on the fly.

Our passing game numbering system is generated from the Passing Tree

0 = Hitch/Fade 2= Slant (3types)

3= 12yd Speed Out 4= 14yd Post Curl

5= 15yd Comeback (Into Boundary) 6= 16yd Dig Route

7= 10yd Corner Route (Smash) 8=10/12yd Post (Influence, Skinny)

9=Streak, Fade

The other set of routes our tagged by name, and compliment our numbering system

Cross = 3yd Shallow Wheel= 2yd out and up KAP= 12yd corner post

Drag= 12yd drag behind backer play Laser= 2yd speed out Choice= 6yd (Read Route)Whip= 6yd slant to (Read) PAK= 14yd post corner Curl= 12 yd curl

Sluggo= 6yd slant & go POA= 12yd slant corner Stutter= 6yd stop & go

Tailback Tags (Will always be check released unless told otherwise based on protection)

Pass Principals

Educated FreedomPlayers must have a common sense approach to operating and running routes,understanding their job, first and foremost, is to get open in a way that the QB can find them. Thesesituations include Hot Calls and rules. They must also understand what their particular role within aroute our combination. That last phase of educational freedom is alignments and assignments and how toproperly execute the plan. Every role is essential to the perfect play.

Scramble RulesIn the event of a blown protection, WRs need to know to break off their routes based onwhat they are running. QBs will NOT throw the ball across body on a scramble. The receiver nearest to the

sideline will go vertical in a hurry the other receivers will stay there depth and go down the line towardsthe boundary of the scramble.

YAC (Yards After Catch)Every athlete in involved in this offense will understand that 80% of our entirepassing game is YAC yardage. WRs will understand coverage recognition on when to drop as needed andwhen to score. QBs will know off of coverage recognition to know where to place the ball to put thereceiver in the best position to make a Big Play.
