With that being said, our interschool cross country team performed to their best, both on and off the field on Friday 7 th August. Twenty-four of our finest runners participated in the Inter-school Cross Country. The students were excited and enthusiastic about going to the first Inter-school event since COVID. Our students showed exceptional behavior on the day and represented the school with a never-give-in attitude. Spe- cial congratulations to Chloe Christmas, Ben Christmas, Mace Freeman and Mia Evans who finished in the top ten for their year level. We finished 9 th overall, a result our school can be very proud of because each and every child did their best on the day. Congratulations to Mr Cox, staff and students on the schools successful participation at the event. Athletics Carnival Our in-house school athletics carnival is fast approaching and to comply with current Covid restrictions we are required to limit the number of adults on the school site. The space limits our families to 100 adults to keep everyone within the 1.5m social distance restriction. To give all families a chance to attend we have allocated 7 places per classroom. A ballot will be conducted by the parent representatives of the school board for each class on Tuesday. Please see attached Expression Of Interest (EOI) for one family representative to complete and return to the office or classroom teacher. We realise it is disappointing that the usual crowd of extended family and community members will not be able to attend, however having some parents will create the atmosphere on the day. Thanking you in anticipation of your support and understanding. STEM Centre for Learning The completion of the administration block has now cleared the way for our new technology (STEM) centre to be refurbished and set up for our computers, robotics, design and technology and Lego construction for integrated learning activities. We have re-wired the building to house desktop computers in a way that creates learning team hubs and activities for students to work in small groups and independently. The available space means one, two or even three classes can access the centre at the same time to share ideas, expertise and engage different age groups in solving problems, using their imagination and critically evaluating their construction models and designs. Our aim is to have the centre operational by term 4. Nature Play The nature playground construction work has now started on the lawn area between the library and the early childhood centre. We have waited a couple of years to finally see the plan come together to enhance out-door learning opportunities for our younger children. The easy access through the door from nature play to the library will allow the children to follow up topics of interest from outside to books on the shelf. This term I will be working in a job share arrangement with Mrs Anderson who won the part-time principal position. I look forward to this partnership and seeing the school flourish under her leadership. Kind regards Nicole Anderson

This year’s theme for Science Week was ‘Deep Blue: innovation for the future of our oceans’. Our oceans are important for many reasons as they create our climates, absorb carbon dioxide and cover two-thirds of the Earth’s surface. Students in the early childhood and junior classes focussed on plastic pollution and how this is impacting on our marine life. They used the Quiver Education app to help bring their colouring pages alive! Did you know that over 8 million tonnes of plastic enter the sea every year? An important reminder to rethink how we need to reduce, reuse and recycle plastics. The middle to senior classes are planning and constructing a fishing game in the endeavour to teach the players how to fish responsibly. This can be done by taking only what you need, sticking to size restrictions/ bag limits and placing own and others’ discarded rubbish in bins. Rooms 1-8 were also fortunate to have a visit from Dr Kari Pitts who is a senior chemist and mineralogist from the ChemCentre’s Forensic Science Laboratory. She discussed her role in assist-ing police to solve crimes and the science behind it. Classes witnessed colourful chemical reactions and viewed short videos that were explosive! Brett Conduit

SCHOOL PHOTO DAY IS COMING! Dear Parents, For the duration of COVID-19, please be aware that Kapture photographers are following all recommended health guidelines and safe practices. Photographers will use verbal queues and instructions in an effort to uphold a high standard of student presentation. Students may be instructed by photographers to use single use sterile combs, use wet wipes or tissues, to fix collars, buttons and stray hairs - without physically touching students. In addition to the above, the class group photo format has been modified whereby a full length ‘character’ pose will be taken of each student in a white studio. The photo is a fun shot with the view to students showing their personality – ‘strike a pose’. These poses will then be combined with all students in the class to form the class group photo of 2020. An example of a character class group and a character pose can be seen as purchase options when ordering your pho-tos online.

Our school photo day is coming! Approximately two weeks prior to the photo day every student will receive a Kapture Photography order envelope to bring home. The recommended method of ordering your photos is online through Kapture’s website as your payment is secure and can be easily verified at any time. If you pay online, there is no need to return the order envelope to school. Alternatively you can pay by cash and return the provided envelope to the school on the photography day. Please note the photographers cannot open sealed envelopes and cannot provide change.

Sibling orders can only be placed online at www.kapture.com.au

You have the option to order a sibling photo package online, however please note there is a physical limit in the school schedule to how many sibling photos can be taken. Once the maximum capacity of sibling orders has been reached, no more sibling orders can be placed. If maximum capacity is not reached, sibling orders close 12pm midday sharp, AT LEAST one business day prior to the first photo day. Enter your school code now in the Order Online page of our website for a live countdown. The school or the photographers cannot accept late orders for sibling photography. Please do not ask as your request simply cannot be accommodated.

Order now to avoid missing out! Late payment envelopes cannot be accepted by the school office or by Kapture. You can place an order online for class or individual photographs at any time for the remainder of the current school year; however a $20 fee will apply if you order more than 10 days after photography. If your child is in a sports or special photo, you can use the same school code on your order envelope to view and order these photos on Kapture’s website, around the time that school photos are ready to be delivered. Please note; class, individual and sibling portraits are not available to view online prior to purchase. Kapture offer a money back guarantee for any parent who is not fully satisfied with their photo package. Should you have any queries before or after photo day, please direct them to the Kapture office on 9240 1714 or email [email protected]. All students will be photographed individually on photo day for school administration records AS WELL as included in their class group presentation available for purchase to all families. Should there be any reason why your child should NOT be included in the photo shoot –please contact the school office.
