East Islip Graduates Record ClassThe 47th Commencement

Exercises of the East Islip HighSchool were held in theauditorium on Sunday, June 23. Arecord class of 509 graduatesreceived their diplomas.

The main address was given byGregory W. Munson , Assistant tothe Supervisor , Town of Islip, andMiss Susan Bailis , ClassPresident , was the studentspeaker .

Many scholarships wereawarded to deserving recipientsin the class. Anthony J. Durso ,Principal , awarded the LionsClub ol the Isiips Scholarship toHelen Siesto ; Dowling CollegeBIu Doctor Scholarship toKathleen Prosek; Rotary Club ofthe Isiips Scholarship to MichaelCoffey; and the Philip MorrisCompany scholarship to Richard

Aulet , Jr. Mrs. Peter Aiellopresented the East Islip P.T.A.Council scholarships to RobertCseh, Jr., Linda Gunvaldsen,Marie Hodukavich , ArleneMarty, Toni Machek , MarieElena Murphy, Patricia Phillipsand Rosemary Walsh. The AlfredE. Hopkins Music Scholarshipswere presented to CatherineCobelli and Guy Lorenzo by Mr.Steven Kemp.

Mr. Henkc! ..resented the LoyalOrder of Moose scholarship toCarol Ann Rosa. The LucyO'Shea scholarships, awarded bythe East Islip TeachersAssociation, were presented byMr. Walter Dunn, president , toKim Kreutzer and Carol AnnRosa. Eugene Stempel , presidentof the Student Council , presentedscholarships to Linda Gun-

valdsen and Helen Siesto;Leonard Cohen , president of theLeo Club , presented scholarshipsto Marie Elena Murph y andRobert Rose. Mrs. JosephMormando. representing theEast Islip EducationalS e c r e t a r i e s A s s o c i a t i o n ,presented a scholarship to DianeWells.

The invocation was given bythe Rev . William H. Wagner ,rector , St. Mark's Church, Islip.and the benediction was given bythe Rev. Robert R. Cofer. pastor,Christ Evangelical LutheranChurch, Islip Terrace.

The entire program was video-taped by Teleprompter CableT.V. and was prepared forviewing at two separate times tothe community.

CENTRAL ISLIP WRESTLING CHAMPIONS - The members of this year's Varsity WrestlingTeam, at the Central IsUp High School, have distinguished themselves by winning numerous in-dividual titles. Seniors Pursue Art Studies

DIPLOMAS were presented to 582 graduates of the Mulligan Jr. HighSchool, Central Islip in the school auditorium. Alan M. Borden,member of the Board of Education is shown presenting the board'saward to Sharon Cinquemani. Observing, center , is Maria Ortez whowas selected as best all-round 8th grade girl.

Thirty five East Islip HighSchool seniors , currently enrolledin the high school art program,have indicated that they havedefinitely decided upon variouscareers in art and plan to con-tinue their studies at variouscolleges throughout the country .

In addition to seeking guidanceand counseling from their artteachers during the past year ,many of the seniors have workedindependently on special projectsto improve their knowledge andskills in the area in which theyplan to specialize. They haveelected to specialize in the finearts , commercial art, advertisingdesign , fashion design andillustration , graphics , arte d u c a t i o n , p h o t o g r a p h y ,cinematography and ar-chitectural and mechanicaldrawing.

To further assist future artcareer students , the ArtDepartment recently initiated anindependent study Art WorkshopProgram to help these studentsimprove their knowledge andskills in the area in which theyplan to specialize.
