East Isl ip Graduates Reco rd Class The 47th Commencement Exercises of the East Islip High School were held in the auditorium on Sunday, June 23. A record class of 509 graduates received their diplomas. The main address was given by Gregory W. Munson , Assistant to the Supervisor , Town of Islip, and Miss Susan Bailis , Class President , was the student speaker . Many scholarships were awarde d to deserving recipients in the class. Anthony J. Durso , Principal , awarded the Lions Club ol the Isiips Scholarship to Hel en Siesto ; Dowling College BIu Doctor Scholarship to Kathleen Prosek; Rotary Club of the Isiips Scholarship to Michael Coffey ; and the Philip Morris Company scholarship to Richard Aulet , Jr. Mrs. Peter Aiello presented the East Islip P.T.A. Council scholarships to Robert Cseh, Jr., Linda Gunvaldsen, Marie Hodukavich , Arlene Marty, Toni Machek , Marie Elena Murphy, Patricia Phillips and Rosemary Walsh. The Al fred E. Hopkins Music Scholarships were presented to Catherine Cobelli and Guy Lorenzo by Mr. Steven Kemp. Mr. Henkc! . .resented the Loyal Order of Moose scholarship to Carol Ann Rosa. The Lucy O'Shea scholarships , awarded by the East Islip Teachers Association, were presented by Mr. Walter Dunn, president , to Kim Kreutzer and Carol Ann Rosa. Eugen e Stempel , president of the Student Council , presented scholarships to Linda Gun- valdsen and Helen Siesto; Leonard Cohen , president of the Leo Club , presented scholarships to Marie Elena Murph y and Robert Rose. Mrs. Joseph Mormando. representing the East Islip Educational Secretaries Association, presented a scholarshi p to Diane Wells. The invocation was given by the Rev . William H. Wagner , rector , St. Mark's Church, Islip. and the benediction was given by the Rev. Robert R. Cofer. pastor, Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church , Islip Terrace. The entire program was video- taped by Teleprompter Cabl e T.V. and was prepared for viewing at two separate times to the community. CENTRAL ISLIP WRESTLING CHAMPIONS - The members of this year' s Varsity Wrestling Team, at the Central IsUp High School , have distinguished themselves by winning numerous in- dividual titles. Steve Gardiner and Wendell Tay. Seniors Pu rsue Art Studies DIPLOMAS were presented to 582 graduates of the Mulligan Jr. High School , Central Islip in the school auditorium. Alan M. Borden, member of the Board of Education is shown presenting the board's award to Sharon Cinquemani. Observing, center , is Maria Ortez who was selected as best all-round 8th grade girl. Thirty five East Islip High School seniors , currently enrolled in the high school art program , have indicated that they have definitely decided upon various careers in art and plan to con- tinue their studies at various colleges throughout the country . In addition to seeking guidance and counseling from their art teachers during the past year , many of the seniors have worked independently on special projects to improve their knowledge and skills in the area in which they plan to specialize. They have elected to specialize in the fine arts , commercial art , advertising design , fashion design and illustration , graphics , art education , photography, cinematography and ar- chitectural and mechanical drawing. To further assist future art career students , the Art Department recently initiated an independent study Art Workshop Program to help these students improve their knowledge and skills in the area in which they plan to specialize. Seniors Pursue Art Studies
