d. List of course assignments, weighting of each assignment, and grading/evaluation system for determining a grade

a. Homework Assignments - Homework is expected to be turned in on time. LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Turning work in late will result in a score of a 0 on the assignment. 20% (See Objectives 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7)

Page 6: East Carolina University€¦  · Web viewThe graduate faculty within the program met and determined that renumbering the course will bring it in line with the other graduate level

b. Discussion Board Assignments – Periodically, if not several times a week, you will be asked to post responses to various Discussion Board topics, as well as respond to your classmates’ posts. These assignments must be completed on time, as again, late work will not be accepted. 15% (See Objectives 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7)

c. Counseling Setting Visits - Approval from instructor is required. Students will visit a setting where counseling programs or services are provided (e.g., school, community/agency, college) and interview at least one staff counselor at that setting (SITES MUST BE APPROVED BY THE INSTRUCTOR). Using data collected, write a brief paper of 3-4 double-spaced pages describing the settings, the services/programs provided, the types of counseling provided, population/s served, counselors’ qualifications, evaluation methods, and your overall assessment of the agencies/your fit for working in such an agency. Spelling and grammar DO MATTER, and 1 point will be deducted for each error found in the paper, so please read it over carefully. 10% (See Objectives 2 & 5)

d. Power Point Presentation – You will create a short (maybe 8 slides, at MOST) PowerPoint presentation regarding what you learned from your “Counseling Setting Visits.” You will then post your PowerPoint presentation to a Discussion Board so that your classmates may view it as well. Be sure to double-check spelling on the slides, as errors will have an impact on your grade. These are expected to be professional presentations and should be as error-free as possible. 5% (See Objectives 2, 3, & 5)

e. Life Matrix Paper - Each student will write a paper in which he/she explores his/her own personal development and behavior in light of the six components of the Life Matrix Model. (5-8 pages). 15% (See Objective 5)

f. Final Examination - 20% (See Objectives 1, 2, 4, 6, & 7)

g. Midterm Examination – 15% (See Objectives 1, 2, 4, 6, & 7)

Grading Scale: A = 90 - 100B = 80 – 89C = 70 - 79F = Below 70
