Installing the huge steel bridge girders for the Columbus Crossroads is no easy task under the best of conditions. But try easing a set of girders over a highway and under another set of girders for a second bridge. That's the challenge our crews begin to face this week as work progresses on a ramp that will realign and carry I-670 westbound traffic to I-71 south. Because they'll be working in a less open place than in previous girder installations, overnight construction crews will be using smaller, but heavy-duty cranes to swing the girders onto special support posts to hold them in place. Once secured, the permanent, reinforced concrete support will be poured around the beams.

Ease on down, ease on down the road....

Installing the huge steel bridge girders for the Columbus Crossroads is no easy taskunder the best of conditions. But try easing a set of girders over a highway and underanother set of girders for a second bridge. That's the challenge our crews begin to facethis week as work progresses on a ramp that will realign and carry I-670 westbound trafficto I-71 south.

Because they'll be working in a less open place than in previous girder installations, overnight construction crews will be using smaller, but heavy-duty cranes to swing thegirders onto special support posts to hold them in place. Once secured, the permanent, reinforced concrete support will be poured around the beams.

And while we're at it, a big shout out to our crews who work the overnight shift on thesegirder installations, even though it may not be a show many of us get to see until the nextday. They're here every night folks! Give 'em a big hand! Try the veal! (Sorry...got carriedaway.)
