newsIn what has proved to be a successful prelude to the main event in August, the participants had guided tours from MMU tutor Dominic Sagar on foot and with URBED on their reconditioned routemaster bus - available for bookings from www.urbed.com

The participants enjoyed a visit to CUBE, a guided tour of the People History Museum and drinks in cloud 23.

The workshop was focused on recording EASA participants understanding of Manchester, from preconceptions to hindsight. The output of the workshop part of EASA: An Exhibition now showing at easaHQ.

EASA: An Exhibition easaHQ has found itself transformed for its current exhibition.

30 years in the making, EASA: An Exhibition brings together work from every summer assembly since EASA began in 1981, for the largest, most in depth exhibition on the subject ever assembled. The exhibition aims to explain all aspects of EASA to the uninitiated though themed rooms covering everything from workshops to parties.

Along with photos and posters produced at past assemblies, exhibits also include videos and documentaries as well as original documents such as welcome packs and final reports from three decades of EASA.

As with all exhibitions at easaHQ EASA: An Exhibition is a free

exhibition and will be open until the 4th March.

Preview night

A big thank you to all who made it to easaHQ for the preview night of EASA: an Exhibition on Friday the 19th.

The evening saw easaHQ looking her best for an evening of wine, canapés, short speeches and surprises.

With the involvement of the workshop participants and

assorted guests from the mainland the evening had a

real EASA flavour.

Participate

As well as the exhibition preview, and as well as the workshop announcements, Friday saw the opening of the application window for easa010.

National Contacts continent-wide were notified of their countries quota as well as forwarded the application form which this year included the requirement for every single

participant to produce an article based on the assembly’s theme:

Identity.

All the articles will be read by the team with the best going to a shortlist and a panel of judges. The winners will be notified in advance of the assembly and will be involved in a very special

Sponsorship opportunities

The organising process is ploughing on, but easa010 is still looking for sponsors at every level of involvement, from advertising in our welcome pack to providing tools and materials, through to becoming a Principle Sponsor, we want to hear from your company.

EASA is a unique event that generates National and International interest and press coverage. It is in every school of architecture in Europe and receives coverage in major journals as well as main stream media.

easa010 will be the first time that EASA has come to this country in 30 years. easa010 is well grounded in Manchester and has received a huge amount of support, not only the building trade, but the academic institutions, Manchester City Council and Manchester’s galleries and creative scene.

In the run up to easa010 the team is hosting a further four exhibitions in easaHQ, we are involved in three highly visible workshops in the public realm. We are working with the Manchester Architecture and Design Festival, as well as working to help give 16 - 18 year olds a start in the industry though a link up with connexions.

During the event itself we will be holding a static exhibition at CUBE gallery to allow the public to find

out more about what is going on in the city. We will be holding a series of events open to the public to allow interaction with the participants culminating with easaDAY on the 14th August.

In parallel to the assembly easaFRINGE will host a series of events such as the CUBE exhibition and meetings between schools of architecture from around the UK.

Following the assembly easaUK will be producing 2 printed books, one covering the work

of easaHQ and one covering the outputs of the workshops, these are in

addition to easa010’s Final Report covering all things

easa010.

The organising team believes that the energy created by the hosting of easa010 can be the spark capable of generating great things in and for the city and the architecture industry in the UK. As such we are keen to have many institutions involved, in order to maximise the impact of the event.

To become a sponsor, or to find out more, contact

the team.
