"Let us imagine an enclosure of virtuallyany scale that lets sunlight into itself andthat prevents heat from escaping whenthe interior microclimate is too cool. Italso reflects sunlight, and it dumps heat

out into the night sky when its interioris too warm . Let us further conceivethat, within this enclosure, sufficientheat could be stored in the ground toprovide several days worth , even if thesun did not shine. We would then havea system that would maintain a verystable interior microclimate withoutrequiring mechanical heating or cooling.Let us then also imagine a building thatis designed not only to provide shelterfrom the weather, but also to providesome food; fresh water; liquid and solidwaste disposal ; space heating andcooling; power for cooking andrefrigeration; and electricity forcommunications, lighting and householdappliances.

Peace,Please enjoy. This is a taste of true urbansustainability and freedom. Earthships willprovide many benefits to the Philadelphia region. They successfully create "green jobs, generate

and contribute to property tax, as well as being aviable remedy for homelessness, as the homes areself sufficient. Further, the first Earthship in anurban environment, in the United States will be

making history. It is forward thinking and it willbring much publicity and opportunity to thosethat support us. We have the structural plans andsupport to move forward from: Gov. Ed Rendell,Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown, Arlen

Specter, Councilmans Wilson Goode Jr., andCurtis Jones Jr., Anthony Hardy Williams office, the Mayors Office of Sustainability Rep. KenyattaJohnson, and other notable figures and

community leaders in the city. To realize thishome, we need a . The neighborhoodthat this home is built in will changeforever. Besides raising the property value, it willbeocme an embassy for people in the urbansustainability movement, including the Mayorwho hopes to boast having the "greenest" city inAmerica. This is the future of urban sustainability.

    THERMAL MASS MANAGEMENT

EARTHSHIPS ARE PASSIVE SOLAR HOMES FIRST. THETIRES ARE INSULATORS. OFF GASSING IS NOT ANISSUE AS THESE TIRES ARE NOT EXPOSED TO AIR.
