Earth’s Sacred Wonders series premiere WED Mar 25 | 10pMany of the world’s best-known landmarks have been inspired by faith, and today, more worshippers than ever are flocking to these sacred places. For some people, they’re sanctuaries for quiet contemplation; for others, they’re sites for astonishing acts of worship, dangerous challenges and extraordinary deeds of devotion. Discover what people do for faith in some of the most sacred places on Earth.

Somewhere South series premiere FRI Mar 27 | 9pCelebrity chef Vivian Howard, host of the award-winning series A Chef's Life, returns to KCTS 9 with her new six-part series. In Somewhere South, Vivian travels the changing South in search of the dishes that connect us all – dumplings, hand pies, porridge and more – but which are expressed in delightfully different ways across cultures. Along the way, she meets new friends and teachers, and as she says, discovers “how breaking bread and sharing a meal can create a comfortable place to have meaningful, memorable conversations.”

Call the Midwife season premiere SUN Mar 29 | 8pOpening with the funeral of Winston Churchill in January 1965, Season 9 follows the women of Nonnatus House as they enter a bold and innovative era. As the tower blocks multiply and a new East End rises from the ashes of the old, society becomes more prosperous, but more complex. Our familiar team of midwives and medics faces unexpected challenges as the population shifts, rules change, and old diseases come back to haunt them.

Independent Lens: One Child Nation MON Mar 30 | 10pChinese filmmaker Nanfu Wang’s award-winning documentary explores the history of China's one-child policy, a population-control measure that made it illegal for couples to have more than one child. Although the policy ended in 2015, generations of parents and children were scarred by the enforcement of this extreme social experiment. Wang digs fearlessly into her own personal life, weaving her experience as a new mother and the firsthand accounts of her relatives with archival propaganda material and testimony from victims and perpetrators alike.

American Masters: Lorraine Hansberry – Sighted Eyes/Feeling Heart w THU Mar 12 | 1pLorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun depicted the limitations of the American dream through the lives of a black family on Chicago’s South Side. The play changed the face of American theater, earning the New York Drama Critics’ Circle prize for Best Play of 1959. This documentary examines the renowned playwright’s life and work; it features interviews with Hollywood legends such as Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee, Harry Belafonte and Louis Gossett Jr.

American Experience: Annie Oakley w MON Mar 16 | 1pShe was the toast of 19th-century London, New York and Paris, and her fans included Chief Sitting Bull, Oscar Wilde and Queen Victoria. Annie Oakley excelled in a man’s world by doing what she loved, and won fame and fortune as the little lady from Ohio who never missed a shot.

Rise Up: Songs of the Women’s Movement w SUN Mar 1 | 8:30pThis dynamic special chronicles the role that music played in the women’s movement. Hit songs that became empowering and beloved anthems are performed by Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Helen Reddy, Loretta Lynn, Gloria Gaynor, Dolly Parton, Tina Turner, Annie Lennox and many others. The show also features footage of historic milestones in the women’s movement.

American Experience: Amelia Earhart w TUE Mar 3 | 1pThe first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, Amelia Earhart was celebrated not only for her daring and determination, but also for her striking looks and outspoken personality. In the end, her courage cost her her life, but her contributions to flight and to women’s struggle for equality made Earhart an enduring American hero.

The Woman in White series encore MON Mar 16 | 2-5p and TUE Mar 17 | 3-5pAdapted from the 19th-century novel by Wilkie Collins, this five-part mystery series is a spine-tingling delight. The story begins when Walter Hartright, a young drawing master, encounters a ghostly woman dressed all in white on a moonlit road on Hampstead Heath. After offering his assistance to the strange woman, he is later shocked to discover that she has just escaped from a nearby insane asylum. Niall Ferguson’s Networld three-part series TUE Mar 17 | 8-11pIn this series, host Niall Ferguson visits network theorists, social scientists and data analysts to explore the history of social networks. From the Reformation and 17th-century witch-hunting through the American Revolution to the nightmare visions of Orwell’s 1984, Ferguson explores the intersection of social media, technology and the spread of cultural movements.

season premiere THU Mar 19 | 8pWork never slows down for Detective John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) as he investigates the crimes that plague the picturesque English county of Midsomer. Season 16 includes the 100th episode of this popular mystery series – that’s 304 murders, if anyone is counting!

This season, Barnaby teams up with a new sergeant, Charlie Nelson, played by the very dashing Gwilym Lee. Tamzin Malleson returns as Dr. Kate Wilding, Midsomer’s no-nonsense pathologist. And on the home front, there’s a new addition to the household: John and his wife welcome a baby girl.
