THE BIBLE IS RIGHT AFTER ALL-PART 1

Our world is filled with skeptics who question the Authority and integrity of the Scriptures. However the Scriptures speak plainly for themselves.

I. GENESIS DOESN'T ATTEMPT TO DEFEND THE EXISTENCE OF GOD.

A. The Bible affirms the fact that man should look around and recognize theexistence of God.

1. The Book of Genesis does not seek to prove His Existence

2. The Book of Genesis reveals the creation of the Uncreated God.

B. Ten times in Genesis one the Bible states; "God said."

1. Genesis 1:3—"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light."

2. Genesis 1:6—"And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters."

3. Genesis 1:9—"And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear; and it was so."

4. Genesis 1:11—"And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so."

5. Genesis 1:14—"And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years."

6. Genesis 1:20—"And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven."

7. Genesis 1:24—"And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so."

8. Genesis 1:26—"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

9. Genesis 1:28—"And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."

10. Genesis 1:29—"And God said, Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."

II. THE INSPIRATION OF GOD IS SET FORTH IN THE SCRIPTURES

A. The phrase, "The Lord spoke" or its equivalent is used 560 times in the first five books of the Bible.

B. The phrase "The Lord spoke" or its equivalent is used 3800 times in the whole of the Old Testament.

C. Isaiah states that at least 40 times his message came directly from God.

D. Ezekiel states that God spake to him at least 60 times.

E. Jeremiah the Weeping Prophet proclaimed that God spake to him dozens of times.

F. Believing that God has spoken through his Word does not present a problem to us when we read of;

1. Adam and Eve

2. Noah's ark

3. Jonah and the whale

4. Joshua and the walls of Jericho

5. Samson and his long hair

6. Daniel and the lion's den.

7. Moses and the red sea.

G. The Bible as given in Genesis is the only logical exclamation for the universe.

III. LETS CONSIDER SCIENCE AND THE BIBLE

A. The Bible has been right all the time;

1. Once it was believed that the earth sat on the back of a large animal.

a. The Creator of the universe however stated through his prophet Job; "He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing." (Job 26:7)

b. It was not until 1650 that Scientist caught up with the Bible and realized what the Scriptures had stated all along was correct.

2. The Scriptures speak of an invisible structure;

a. Only in recent years has science discovered that everything we see is composed of things that we cannot see. (atoms—etc.)

b. Again the Bible continues to be right; "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." (Hebrews 11:3)

3. The Bible reveals that the earth is round;

a. Scientist taught that the earth was flat and that people sailing would fall off the edge of the earth.

b. When Columbus set sail the flat earth theory was still in existence. However Columbus sailed around the world to disprove the theory.

c. Thousands of years previously the Scriptures stated differently; "It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretched out the heavens as a curtain and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in." (Isaiah 40:22)

1. The word "circle" indicates something rounded or arched.

2. The word does not mean something flat or square.

4. The second Law of Thermodynamics states that everything is running down and wearing out.

a. The Bible has stated this fact; "Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment." (Isaiah 51:6)

b. Hebrews 1:11—They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment." (Hebrews 1:11)

5. The water cycle is mentioned in the Bible;

a. The idea of a complete water cycle was not fully understood by science until the seventeenth century.

b. The Scriptures clearly speak to this truth;

1. "All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto theplace from whence the rivers come, thither they return again." (Ecc; 1:7)

2. "He that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them outupon the face of the earth." (Amos 9:6)

B. Man would learn more and wiser if he studied the Bible.
