RESERVES
The thickness of soil is more than 2 meters in this area. As the humus part of soil is
about 0.2 m, therefore only 1.8 m depth of soil is taken for reserve calculation. The
reserve of brick earth is calculated by volumetric method.
Geological Reserve of Brick Earth Quarry
Area (m2) x depth = Volume (m3)
24000 x1.8 = 43200cubic meter
Total geological reserve comes to 43200m3
Blockage of Reserve
A. Reserve Blocked in Mine Limit
900x 1.8 =1620 cubic meter
B. Reserve Blocked in Benches
Brick earth blocked in bench slopes considering the pit slope to be 450
= (Perimeter x Cross section area of bench)
= 782x 1.8 x 1.8 x 0.5
=1266.84cubic meter

The production of soil as shown in the above table will manufacture around
2207363 bricks (including 25% fly ash) per year.
The following steps are involved in the brick manufacturing:
i) The basic raw material is brick earth with requisite plastic properties. The
requirement for 100000 bricks is as follows:
Brick Earth: about 180 cubic meters (including 25 % fly ash)

Coal: About 20 tones
Water: 50-60KL.
ii)Tempering: The Brick Earth is mixed with water to get right consisting either
manually or with pug mills.
iii) Moulding : The tempered Brick Earth is then rolled in sand and shaped into
mould. The sand prevents the Brick Earth from sticking to mould.
iv) Drying: Sun drying in open air is carried for 10 days or so.
v) Firing: The sun dried bricks are arranged in the kiln and insulation is done by
mud pack. The firing is done through the fire hole and the kiln is kept in sealed
condition to keep the heat inside for about a week.
vi) Sorting: The sorting is done on basis of coloration which is an indication of
level of burning.
d) Conceptual Quarry plan:
The estimated minable reserves from this area are of the order of 3
7152.36 cubic meters and recoverable reserve (0.95%) is 35294.74 cubic
meters up to a depth of 2m from the top surface. The conceptual quarry plan is
prepared for the lease period of 10 years and anticipated life of mine is about 10
years. As shown in the conceptual plan plate no. 11.

Ultimate pit limit is fixed keeping final pit slope at the angle of 45o. This will
cover about 2.15ha area and the ultimate depth will be 2m from the surface as
per MoEF guideline dated 24.06.2013.
This plate also shows proposed dumping and program of afforestation. As post
quarrying land use, it will be reclaimed with humus part of soil. After
reclamation it will be used for afforestation.
No any type of rehabilitation will be required in the proposed area because there is
no any important monument, structure or villages come in the core zone.
Exploration:
Exploration is not required.
Drilling:
Drilling will not be required.
Dumping of Waste materials:
Not required in conceptual period.
