Rationale
• This lesson is designed to raise student’s awareness about Earth’s limited resources so that they can write effective sentences about saving the planet.
Essential Question
• What can we do to help save our planet?

• Pick Up Trash

• Turning off water when you brush your teeth
Strategies
• Auditory: Hearing The Lorax by Dr. Seuss
• Visual: Seeing the illustrations in The Lorax
• Written: Writing sentences on how to be “water wise.”
• Kinesthetic: Drawing a picture on the back of the worksheet on how to be “water wise.”
Introduction
• Introducing April 22 as a special day and asking students if they know what that day is.
• Introduce The Lorax, and ask students if they can predict what will happen in the story
Body
• Read The Lorax and as students about what happened in the story and why.
• Students will complete a sentence writing worksheet on being “water wise”
• Students will draw pictures on the back of their worksheet of a way that they have decided to be “water wise.”
Closure
• Students will share the ways in which they have decided to be “water wise.”
