The challenge

Insufficient systemic availability of private investments into the startups, companies with
growth potential and other entrepreneurial initiatives.
Many valuable innovation-driven ventures, cannot get sufficient funding and structural
support for their second and third- round of growth.

Angel Activity There is a good record of angel activity in the country, which was somewhat inhibited in the years between 2019-2014 due to the sharp
economic and financial crisis.
Government Incentives and Support The Initiative Start:up Slovenia represents a valuable framework, which is centred mostly towards the enabling of entrepreneurial activity
at large, that is, primarily towards startups.
Even though Slovenian Government is generally favourable towards entrepreneurial initiatives, there is a lack of overall incentives to
support good business and entrepreneurial activity in the country.
Overall Market Assessment The market has a very high potential for the development and local growth of startups and innovative entrepreneurial initiatives at
large, particularly in relation to research and development institutes (physics, chemical engineering, bio-medical and pharmaceutical
industry and agronomy) and sustainability and circular economy areas.
The key challenge for this is to assure sufficient private funding, investment kow-how and private governance to support growth stages
of recognised valuable initiatives.
