As much as Mrs. Carter’s compilation concerns the pioneers of Cooper

County, Missouri; it also concerns the early pioneers of Pettis County, Missouri. Unfortunately, this distinction is often missing on where these early pioneers and the children lived. There are some instances of where the same individual, in different sections of the compilation, have differing facts associated with their life.

Mrs. Carter’s compilation appears to be primarily based upon census records, wills, and family histories. I have not attempted to capture these sources as they could not generally be associated with specific individuals.

This transcription was made from a printed copy from microfilm. The microfilm also appears to be a copy of a copy of the typed original. As a result many of the typed names and facts have become large blobs of black making transcription especially difficult. So the reader should expect transcription errors.

The transcription was made directly into the software package, “Family Tree Maker.” With the results that ftm and gedcom files can be made available to the family researcher. Genealogical reports in descendant format was made for each of the prime family heads. So it is possible that the same individual with the same facts can occur in more than one place in this document.

With all its faults, I am sure that the researcher will find Mrs. Carter’s compilation to be a needed asset to their researches. Sincerely, Jim

Notes for John Bryant Ball:Buried in northeast Pettis County, Missouri on a farm later belonging to Leftwich. This is oncebelieved to have been a church cemetery. This is now the only stone remaining. The stone is nowgone and the family says that he is buried next to his wife.
