Prekindergarten in Maryland1980-2013
• Maryland State Board of Education adopts resolution to establish the Extended Elementary Education Program (EEEP) for 4-year olds. (1980)
• EEEP funding stands at $19,262,300 with enrollment of 20,314 (2002)
• Provision in Bridge to Excellence law to require LEAs to provide prekindergarten to all 4-year olds with “economically disadvantaged backgrounds,” (i.e., 185% of FPG) (2007)

• Funding for prekindergarten is included in K-12 state funding formula to meet the BTE requirement (2007)
• Task Force on Universal Preschool submits recommendations to Governor (2007)
• Governor signs into law to develop a Preschool for All business plan (2009)
