Jure Keynote Recognition We are very proud that for the first time in EARLI SIG 16 history, we invited and encouraged several young researchers to apply to hold a JURE Keynote. We received very promising contributions. We would like to thank the award committee (members of the SIG 16 community), which selected the best contribution. We are very pleased to announce that Kim Gärtner from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, has won the selection and will give a JURE keynote with the title: The parent factor in child self-regulation – parental beliefs, parenting practices, and the effectiveness of training.

Post-conference - WorkshopWe are looking forward to a very interesting workshop with the topic “Honing Protocols and Practices for Studying Self-Regulation in Classrooms”. We would like to thank both organizers Nancy E. Perry and Therese N. Hopfenbeck for putting together this very exciting program. Also many thanks to all workshop facilitators: Janina Eberhart, Sara Baker, Lynda Hutchinson, Cassandra Trevisani, Devon Trower, Krista Muis, Kelsey Losenno, Brendan Munzar, Nikki Yee, David Whitebread, Pablo Torres and Josh McGrane.

Nearly 30 persons will attend the workshop. Please visit our homepage for further information.

Social EventsMonday: Opening Reception – Apéro In Switzerland we have a long tradition in having an “Apéro”. An Apéro is a social event, usually held before dinner, where people gather for finger food, drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and small talk. It is a Swiss form of socializing that is held at every possible occasion. During our Apéro you will have the time to meet the poster authors. The Apéro is on Monday from 06:00pm to 07:00pm.

Tuesday: Conference DinnerTuesday evening, 28th of August 2018, we'll have an easy going and good time eating, drinking and dancing at the restaurant Palavrion in Zurich. Every registered participant of the conference is invited to join us at the Palavrion at 08.00pm.

Wednesday: Old Town Walking Tour We offer the SIG 16 conference participants the opportunity to join us for a historic old town tour that offers insights into the city´s history. The walking tour takes approximately 2 hours. The tour starts on Wednesday evening at 18:30. Further information are provided on the conference homepage. There is a limited number of participants.

Wednesday: Picnic at the lake A great way to enjoy the summer in Switzerland is to have a picnic. If the weather allows it, we will organize a small picnic at the lake of Zurich. Of course, you will have the possibility to go swimming in the lake (at our own risk – see section summer in Zurich). In nice and warm weather the picnic takes place on Wednesday evening at 19:00. Further information are provided on the conference homepage. There is a limited number of participants.

PicturesWe would like to inform you that we will take pictures during the conference: from presentations to panel discussions and receptions, without disrupting it. Images will be used for EARLI purposes only. We will not share photos with third party organizations. If you do not want to be in the pictures, please contact us at: [email protected]

Drinking Water Tap water is perfectly safe to drink everywhere in Switzerland – including in the middle of the town. You can even drink the water from the fountains located in Zurich! Therefore we recommend all participants to bring their own refillable bottle and enjoy the high quality of the Swiss drinking water. Since so many fountains contain drinking water only fountains with non-drinking water have signs saying, "Kein Trinkwasser", stopping you from taking a sip.

Summer in ZurichSummer is all about swimming in Zurich - in the lake, rivers or at one of the city's 18 thriving lidos. Before or after the conference, we are sure water lovers will enjoy the refreshing and clear water. Most of the swimming facilities (lake and rivers) are free of charge. Don`t forget to bring your swimsuit! However, only good and experienced swimmers should venture out into open water (rivers and lakes). Please always follow the safety rules since you are swimming at your own risk. The conference organizing committee does not take over any liability for this activity.
