BA (Hons) Advertising This course is characterised by a focus on providing the key skills that the highly competitive advertising industry needs in its employees.We aim to give you a head start to joining the profession as a creative,account manager or strategist.

Course overviewThe advertising industry needs professionals thatcan think outside of the box. It takes people thatcan work successfully in teams, with a range of skills that are necessary to produce high impactcampaigns. This course is designed to develop yourunderstanding of brands, marketing, advertisingstrategy and creativity, in order to help prepare you for your future career as an account handler, or creative, working in the demanding worlds of marketing or advertising.

We use real briefs and techniques and work closelywith specialists to ensure that our course is at thecutting edge of industry thinking. To develop your team working skills you will work closely withother students on advertising briefs, researchingmarkets, developing strategies and producingcreative campaigns.

We work with many advertising agencies andclients such as Leo Burnett, Ogilvy and Mather and Waitrose, to set our live briefs, provide guest lectures and offer our students prestigious work placements.

Course overviewThis course focuses on the techniques ofcontemporary journalism practices and theiroperation in the established technologies of radioand television and the more recent and continuingdevelopment of online formats. There is a practicalemphasis on research, writing, production andpresentation – the core skills required of journalistsin this field. We also carefully consider the contextof journalism practice, examining ethical and legalconcerns as well as social, political, institutional andeconomic issues and their coverage in the media.

This course has a broad based approach and looksat the future concerns and development of theindustry and the explosion in news and informationdelivery via the internet and the possibilities this opens up for employment. You will study the techniques of news and features journalism,examining areas such as current affairs, sports, arts and music reviewing.

We have a strong commitment to learning bydoing and to real industry practices which includessimulated ‘news days’, assessed live broadcasts and a work placement. There is also theopportunity to undertake a long-term assessed role as part of the University’s Blast FM radiostation which is managed by students.

BA (Hons) Fashion and Textiles This innovative and exciting course is designed to produce graduateswho are fully equipped with the creative, practical and transferable skillsnecessary for employment in this demanding and competitive industry.

Course overviewThe course focuses on the integration of vocationalindustry-based skills for cutting-edge fashion and textiles with the creative and intellectualdevelopment of each individual student. We aim to produce graduates who are equipped withthe skills and competencies that the fashionindustry requires.

Creative and practical studies are stronglyunderpinned by professional development andcritical studies, which reinforce the relationshipbetween theory and practice, in relation to boththe market place and the cultural context offashion design. We have well-established links withindustry, working closely with major companies on briefs that they have set.

During the course, you will learn to negotiate therelationships and intersections between fashiondesign and development and printed textiles andknitwear design. Course overviewThe course has been carefully crafted so thatelements of film theory complement and underpinpractice at every stage. Though the emphasis is on practical aspects of content production, the theoretical material enables an in depthexploration of the subject and supports you in broadening your range of critical skills.

We are committed to a learning by doing approachto film production and we work closely withbusinesses and other organisations in providingopportunities for our students to work on ‘live’projects usually in the form of short promotionalfilms. Alongside your own assessable projects andour filmmaking ‘challenges’ there are plenty ofopportunities for practical film production. Uniquelyplaced in West London, the course is based on acampus at the heart of the UK film and mediaindustry and we take full advantage of this, offeringa work placement that will give you an immersiveexperience of working alongside professionals.

Our graduates have gone on to work onindependent productions, set up their owncompanies and have worked for companies such as Twentieth Century Fox, Sky, BBC and Endemol.

Course overviewThe course has a strong practical focus but hasbeen developed to also enable an understandingof broader areas of games development anddesign and supporting history, contextual andsocial issues, together with an overview of the moretechnical aspects of the discipline. You will also beable to investigate a range of subjects within thefield of gaming alongside more specialised subjectareas in games art and games design.

Games art approaches the arena of gaming froman artistic viewpoint and is designed for those whowish to explore the aesthetic and contextualaspects of gaming from either an experimental or more conventional approach. Games designfocuses on the analysis and design aspects ofgaming, including character, arena and gameinterface design. Small-scale documentation,prototyping and testing of games concepts are a strong feature of this area of study.

Course overviewGraphic Design helps shape the way we see and interact with the world. This course has beencrafted to reflect the range of possibilities that thisdynamic and constantly evolving subject offers.

On the course you are encouraged to explore andexpress ideas through a range of relevant media. The course will enable you to develop skills inconceptual and critical thinking, typography, designdrawing, illustration, screen based and digital mediaskills that will equip and support you in your futurecareer. Tutor led projects, self initiated work, andnational competitions are all part of the programmeof study.

We offer a unique curriculum; the course philosophyacknowledges that graphic design is not only aboutsolving problems, but also about innovation andpersonal authorship in which a designer’s point ofview and vision play a catalytic role in change. We take full advantage of our unique situation in West London at the heart of the UK’s film andmedia industries with study visits and guided tours to key media and cultural institutions andorganisations. Course overviewThe course develops an understanding of astrategic approach to PR, and a grounding in the techniques employed. We have close workingrelationship with the Public Relations ConsultantsAssociation and you will work on briefs from PRconsultancies and departments and use a variety of techniques to produce communication solutions.

We are committed to learning by doing and inaddition to lectures and tutorials you will take onthe roles of PR personnel and write briefs, producereports, make presentations and deliver targetedPR solutions throughout your study. The workplacement gives you the opportunity to put these skills into practice in a ‘live’ situation with real clients.

Entry requirement200 UCAS points at Level 3, which would normally include at least two relevant subject areas plus GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C or above.

English language requirementIELTS 6.0 overall and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the four components (reading, writing, speaking and listening).
