Volunteers needed for the East side 2018 Graduation Party. The Graduation Party is Wednesday, May 30, 2018 following the Wausau East Graduation Ceremony. This celebration is provided for all Seniors of Enrich, Excel, Achieve (EEA) Learning Academy, Wausau Engineering and Global Leadership Academy (EGL) and Wausau East. The party provides a fun and safe celebration for all who attend, and sometimes this is the only party a Senior may have. The East Graduation Party Committee is struggling with volunteers and we need your help. The time commitment can be what you wish it to be. Help draft a letter, stuff envelopes, make posters for the school to promote the party, help with ideas for games and prizes, head or be a part of a committee (food, decorating, games, prizes, security, etc.). Whatever you are willing to give us in time and talents is up to you. The hope is that by the time your current Horace Mann child is a Senior, parents/guardians will be able to enjoy the evening knowing how the Party works and that their child/young adult is in good hands. The Wausau School District does not fund this event. We rely on sponsorships of local businesses and families of current and past Wausau East side students. Without the help of volunteers, we would not be able to provide a safe environment for our graduating classes to have one last “Hooray” together. Please reach out to Cory Toth-LaPointe at 715-574-6910 or [email protected] if you would like to volunteer or have questions about what the Graduation Party entails. Thank you!

The 7th & 8th grade girls soccer season is just around the corner. Our first practice is set

for Monday, April 9th!! If your daughter is interested check out the following letter for

more information; Girls soccer letter. You can also check out our game schedule on the

Horace Mann Athletics calendar on our website. Contact Coach Smith at

[email protected] if you have any questions.

TEAM 6-1 NEWS

Visit to Planetarium at Wausau West - Thursday, March 8th Imagine College at NTC - Friday, March 9th Bowling Incentive - Friday, March 23rd

7th Grade News

Our seventh graders recently had the opportunity to experience an Ellis Island simulation, in which students each played the role of a different identity coming to America. Students were from different countries, spoke different languages, belonged to different classes, and had different skills. Each student went through different trials that tested similar skills that people had to prove they had in order to enter America. We had a lot of thought-provoking experiences that helped us connect to events in history. We also want to remind students and families that we are about halfway to our March 23rd incentive. Make sure to review the incentive criteria, including the need to excuse students' unexcused absences. Also, look forward to receiving progress reports in the near future. Check infinite campus as a resource to check for any grades and/or missing work that may affect students progress grades. As always, feel free to contact team leaders or any of your child's teachers with questions or concerns.

Music News

Congratulations to the Horace Mann VIOLISTS who participated in Saturday, February 17th's "Viola Jamboree" at UW - Eau Claire. Over 100 violists from Wisconsin and Minnesota, from Middle School students to College students, came together for a day of making music, learning new things and generally enjoying All Things Viola. Congratulations to Ana Baez, Brianna Havlovick, McKenzie Liddy, La Ni Lor, Meghan Sweeney, Shengkhi Lor and Shayla Schramm for doing a great job representing Horace Mann and violists everywhere with distinction!

Good luck to all the Horace Mann students who are participating in the district Solo and Ensemble Festival this Saturday, February 24th! The festival is at D.C. Everest Middle School, and many vocal and instrumental students from our school and all around the area have worked hard to prepare for this fun and rewarding performance opportunity. A few final tips for our participants: -Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the event. See student packet for driving directions to DCE Middle School. -Please make sure your student brings their instrument and music home on Friday February 23rd, as the music department will not be open on Saturday. -If your student is participating in Jazz Band or Chamber Orchestra, make sure you wear your "uniform," know where your warm-up location is, and know your group's warm-up and performance times. -Parents, friends and family members are welcome and encouraged to watch our students’ performances! We are all looking forward to cheering our Horace Mann musicians on! Please contact Mr. Larson, Mr. Farmer or Ms. Martin with questions.

Sharing music with our school and community extends into meaningful service with donations to the

Horace Mann Eagle Pride Market! Our school’s food pantry helps students and their families when

needed. If you would be willing to be a part of this effort, you can bring a non-perishable food item to

the upcoming Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Concert on March 8th at Horace Mann. Thank you in

advance!
