Sixth graders recently used their voices and in-struments to bring cheer to Dogwood Nursing Home residents. They also presented each resident with a hand-made Christmas card and a clear explanation of the Christmas story.

Carter Patterson gave his card to a man in the back. A week later, much to his surprise, he received a reply.

“On a piece of notebook paper, the man told me about his family and that he was in WW2,” said Carter.

Even more interesting, when Carter shared the letter with his class, teacher Mrs. Beck realized that the man’s grandson had attended a school where she taught years ago!

Carter plans to write to the man again and hopes they will be-come pen pals.

Art is an integral part of a well-rounded education, developing not only fine-motor skills but perspective as well. First graders Kyla Black and Dillon Thompson create a picture of a flip-flop, one ear swab dot at a time.

Bikes and Books

On your mark! Get set! Go! Third graders line their bikes and wait for the take-off whistle.

What do bicycles and books have in common? The PIE-sponsored Bike-A-thon held in October raised over $2000 for new library books. Stacked one on top of the other, that’s 22" of books!

In addition to healthy exercise and new books, students learned bike safe-ty tips from the Henry County Sheriff’s department. Their advice: Keep those helmets on to have many more days of riding and reading!

$100 Typing^Challenge

No sooner had Mrs. Jarrell post-ed a challenge to give $100 to the first student who could top her score of 80 words per min-ute, than she had a winner.

“I noticed commotion outside my classroom,” said Mrs. Jarrell who teaches elementary computer when her K4 class is at PE.

“It turns out that Josiah Henry had just typed 81 wpm, and some students wondered if I was serious about my challenge,” she continued.

To keep the challenge going, Josiah is offering $100 to the student who scores the highest by March 15, 2012. The competition, measured by TypingTest.com, is open to anyone in the school.

“I started the challenge to motivate my elementary stu-dents. Now that high schoolers have picked up the inter-est, it’s getting very competitive!” Mrs. Jarrell said, noting that she is quite happy with the outcome.

Where in the World Are...Mel and Jenny Lockhart Mel Lockhart was privileged to attend BBCS from K5 through 12th grade. Jenny began attending in 9th grade, and they both graduated in 1996. They were married in 1998 and now live in Shelby, NC. God has given them five wonderful children to rear for His glory.

Because of the spiritual empha-sis at Bible Baptist in both the school and the church which led them to trust fully in Jesus Christ, the couple always had the desire to serve Him. Even while they were at Bible Baptist and serving at the downtown Atlanta Rescue Mission, God began prepar-ing them for what they now know is a life of service in the inner cities among

the poor and needy. For the past three years,

they have been involved in a local rescue mission and seeking God’s leading as they work through a local church to plant an inner-city church. It is their desire to see a church in a forgotten city that reaches those who are the most forgot-ten such as the drug-addicted, poor, and homeless.

Mel says, “BBCS was a place where we learned biblical truths that have directed our paths, such as James 2:5 which says: Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God cho-sen the poor of this world rich in faith,

The Hard OathOur junior class spent a week at the Wilds Leadership Conference this fall. The conference provides biblical an-swers to questions teens face so they can exert a godly influence among their peers.

When the students returned, they signed and posted The Hard Oath which reads:

In order for me to be the true SERVANT LEADER that God requires of me in my

school, church, home, and personal life, I will...#1. Reject apathy and passivity#2. Refuse to gossip about other people#3. Respond to my peers and authoritieswith respect at all times#4. React without complaining#5. Reach out to others and serve

Hard is hard, but hard is good.2 Corinthians 6:3-10

Thank you Junior class for this commitment to be true Ser-vant Leaders. We’re praying for you!

Few choices that parents make impact their children more than where to send them to school. After all, they spend over 15,000 hours in the classroom by the time they reach 18.

One reason the choice is so important is that children’s view of the world and their role in it is influenced by where and how they learn.

At BBCS, we work hard to develop not only our stu-dents’ minds but their hearts and spirits as well. Our aim is to show children God’s view of the world and direct them in the way they should go so that when they are old, they will not depart from that path [Proverbs 22:6].

God’s PerspectiveSo whether it is a first grade math lesson, an upper el-

ementary chapel, a community service project, or a basket-ball practice, we present to our students God’s perspective as revealed in the Scriptures. In turn, we encourage them to do everything they do for His glory.

Only an education that has the liberty to address the whole child -- social, intellectual, emotional, physical, AND spiritual -- reaches this possibility of excellence.

Why Christian Education? Why BBCS?Because we offer...

Why ChristianEducation?

If we work upon marble, it will perish; if we work upon brass, time will efface it; if we rear temples, they will crumble into dust;

BUT...If we work upon immortal minds and instill into them just principles, we are then engraving that upon tablets which no time will efface, but will brighten and brighten to all eternity.

- Daniel Webster

An Olde English Christmas was the theme of this year’s elementary Christmas program. Here, 2nd and 3rd grade enchant the audience with traditional carols.

Right, Tilly and Lizzy [Amber Davis, Victoria Edmonds] do their best to not share a little gos-sip.

Left, Bobby [Zach Nething] tells the pas-tor [Ben Clum] that he’s asked Jesus into his heart.

The senior drama class performed John Patrick’s humorous drama The Curious Savage to a packed house in November. Money may not bring happiness, even when you’re left $10 million by your deceased husband, but friends in the nut house will. The surprise ending left the audience wondering who exactly are the sane.

Building Character Through Sports

BBCS maintains an athletic program that includes golf, soccer, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, baseball and softball. There are options for both boys and girls as we compete with other schools throughout Geor-gia under the direction of the Georgia Christian Athletic Association.

Athletics play an important role in the character building process of our students. Within each sport, students experience moments that are true to

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

The Fine Arts Showcase is one of the highlights of the year at BBCS.

Not only do students dis-play their paintings, photogra-phy, woodworking, and other visual arts, but the evening comes alive with music and drama.

“The great advantage for the students is the opportunity to gain experience perform-ing before a live audience,” said Mrs. Henry, who directs the bands and high school choir.

The advantage for parents and the community is being able to see the students’ talents and the quality fine arts program BBCS offers.

The Fine Arts Showcase is held in conjunction with Open House. The event is free and open to the community. Everyone is welcome!

Ewwwwwwwwww!Hands-On Science

It might be yucky but hands-on science is an important part of BBCS’ curriculum. Other hands-on projects planned this year include the following:

Dissecting earthworm, grasshoppers, mammalian hearts, brains, kidneys, eyes, and a fetal pig

Following the progress of tropical storms as they happen by graphing their locations

Launching rockets with several different sources of thrust from air to water to fire!

Using computer sensors to measure velocities, temperatures, sound waves, and electricity

“There’s always a cool chemistry demonstration or two in the works,” stated Mr. Nething who teaches high school science. “Sometimes they explode on purpose, sometimes by accident, but always with purpose,” he continued.
