GM's Message",."",.",.""""."""""",."""""""","""""""',"""""""""""""'"

The financial year 2.008-09 has closed amidst the embers of recession and the fires of newchallenges, The global forces of recession affected the throughput and financials of RGCT forthe last five months of the financial year. The dropping business volume called for measures to

keep the wolf away from our doors. Certain very innovative initiatives were rolled out tomaintain our competitiveness. Most importantly, the productivity at the RGCT has scaled newhighs month after month - March 09 closed with nearly 19 gross moves per hour. Awards came'our way for innovations and out of our concern for a Greener tomorrow. The IGT Familystood out in its constant endeavour to consistently increase service levels for our customers,

'The construction of the ICTT is going on as per schedule and the migration plan is underformulation. It was notall work and no play at DP World Cochin, The football and cricket teamswon many laurels in the past year with the football team carving a niche for itself in the very firstyear in the League.

Over the years the IGT Family has weathered many storms together, With every experiencewe have emerged stronger and better tempered. The policy makers of the country and the

shipping fraternity have forecast stormy days ahead, The severity of the economic turbulencethat we are experiencing today has not been felt in the past half century. To ride out this wehave to cooperate to cut costs, wherever possible and in whatever manner and innovate to

improve the bottom line. We must not be blinded by the hardship of the sacrifices of todaywhen our responsibility is to the generations that will benefit from our sacrifices,

The ICTT was considered an impossible dream till a few years back. DP World Cochin is

making that dream happen and proving that we believe "The Impossible Is Possible". The first2.00 meters of the berth face will be ready in August and the new equipment for the terminal

will be receivedin September. The ICTT will be commissionedin November 2.009 signallingthat "We Can" and "We Will",

I wish the IGT Family a year of innovation, safety and happiness,

In the night of 20 March 2009, when I was going back to my house on mybike, after my shift, I met with an accident near ICD yard. It was due tosudden breaking of my bike to save a pedestrian who was drunk. I fell downand lost consciousness and was lying on the road.

By God's grace I was wearing helmet and the reflective jacket issued to

me by DP World Cochin, which in fact saved me from being run over by

passing vehicles. Mr.,Rineesh was the first person who saw me, he stoodby my side and informed the Shift in charge. Shortly, Sacco & Paulson cameand shifted me to the Port Trust Hospital. Dr. Bindhu and her team tookcharge and did the necessary treatment.

From what I recall, I remember I was talking in my sleep, but of things thathappened in the past. My friends informed my wife and brought her to thehospital. I was suffering from temporary memory loss which occurred due to

the shock from the fall. The doctors kept me for an overnight observation.

My family and friends filled in the details regarding my accident andincidents that followed. I thank all my fellow team members who actedjudiciously and for the support they rendered to myself and my family on

that night.

opportunityOnce upon a time there was a young man who was longing to marry abeautiful daughter of the village's most intellectual farmer. He approachedhim with his wish and showed the readiness to accept any challenge towin his heart. The farmer smiled and asked him come to his farm next day.

Next day the farmer put a simple condition in front of him that he wouldleave three bullocks open in the farm and he needs to catch the tail of anyone of them. If he succeeds in that he would be eligible to ask for hisdaughter's hand. The young man laughed in his sleeves and starteddreaming about her marriage with farmer's daughter. The farmer releasedthe first bullock which was very healthy and full of wildness. The youngman had never seen such a big bullock in his life hence he decided to skipthis one and wait for another one to catch the tail of. Belying hisexpectations, the second one was much bigger and stout like a hunk. Hedecided not to play with danger and skipped the second one also. Now, asthe last chance the third bullock was freed by the farmer which brought thehuge smile on the young man's face. The third bullock was apparently veryweak and thin. The young man ran towards it and jumped to catch it's tailbut he was shocked to see that it didn't have any TAIL.

Life is full of opportunity. No doubt some of them are difficult to take on butif we let it go due to fear or lack of self confidence we may never be ableto marry a beautiful women of farmer called SUCCESS.

A story that inspired me By Mr. Keshavdas.CFO.

0.1 What are yourpriorities for thecoming year?We have set out on atarget this year toachieve the bestoperating

Srijith.K efficiencies. This has(Head-Engg.) been my top priority

in the past year and I would like toimprove on it this year. The awarenessand urgency has caught up with theteam at IGT and innovative ideas comefrom all quarters. This would be achievedwhile keeping the reliability ofequipments at an acceptably high level. We have a very good group ofexperienced personnel on deputationalong with young and enthusiasticpersonnel from DP World. Together asan IGT team, we have been meeting upwith the challenges posed every day andbeen doing it successfully. One of my most important priorities is tobuild a confident, dedicated andmotivated team in Engineering. Thiswould also involve excellent workingrelations with operations and the otherdepartments. I will also be coordinatingall activities concerned with Engineeringand setting up the workshop facility atICTT as also the new equipmentinspections, acceptance and enduranceprotocols at ICTT.

0.2 . What are your plans to migrate ouroperations to ICTT?We are in the process of charting out amigration plan spearheaded by our CFOwhich is exhaustive and we would covermost aspects involved in the activity. Thisis quite a challenge as there is noprecedent. The biggest challenge wouldbe in starting up the ICTT operations andmanaging the existing terminal at thesame time for a'certain period of time. The process would involve shifting ofequipments, setting up new process andprocedures for the new site and settingup maintenance schedules for newequipment and infrastructure at ICTT.On the human resources front, enablingand encouraging the team to haveinvolvement and take on challenges andadditional responsibilities are the areasof attention.

0.3. The Engineering team of DP WorldCochin has been very innovative overthe past years. Are there any ideas in thepipeline this year? The Engineering team at DP world is ahealthy mix of experienced personneland some dynamic youngsters, whohave been applying their minds to makethe best use of available resources. There have been numerous innovationswhich have made an impact onefficiency, safety and way of working. These ideas come from the staff on thefield and want to see things improveevery day keeping costs in check. One of the latest innovations was todesign a portable electrical drive unit forthe boom operation on the quay cranes. This innovation was a result of the needto safely access the electrical room inthe event of a drive failure / poweroutage etc during boom operation. Aperson has to cross over to the boom

Congratulations

and walk over the unprotected girder orget down to the walkway through atemporary ladder to a drop of about 25 ft.which was highly unsafe. With thisinnovation, the boom can be retracted ona local mode with a portable controldrive, which can be used for both cranes. The prototype has been successfullytested on one OC.

0.4 How different are the challenges atNSICT and DP World Cochin ?All equipments were new at NSICT andwere maintained at a very high standard.Good systems were in place right frominception and we improved on it. Theother big advantage at NSICT is the'commonality of spares as most of theequipments are of the same vintage andmake. The biggest challenge was tocarry out maintenance work between theextremely busy vessel schedules. The challenges at IGT are very muchdifferent. We have to deal withequipments of older vintage and ofdifferent types, makes and models. Forthe older equipments, no ready sparesare available, and sourcing these sparesis time consuming and comes at apremium cost. However the flip side of itis that it encourages us to be innovative. At IGT, with the optimum number ofequipments and peak loads in operationsduring certain hours of the day, maintaining maximum equipment uptimeis definitely a challenge. The cooperation and understandingbetween the various departments in IGTis the biggest advantage and reason forsuccess despite all the constraints whichwe face.

0.5 What are your hobbies?I like to travel to offbeat locations, I enjoyswimming and I also dabble a bit in finearts, mostly oil on canvas.-
