The Children’s Centerfor Communication
Beverly School for the Deaf
The Children’s Center for Communication/Beverly School for the Deaf is constructing a 7,000 square foot multi-purpose space located at the corner of Overlook and Echo Avenues. This building is necessary to meet the growing needs of students ages 14-22.
The major function of this building is: • To enhance the CCCBSD Life Skills program by creating additional opportunities for skill development and engaging in the local community. • To assure CCCBSD high school students who are Deaf and hearing with physical challenges have a fully-accessible learning space. • To provide practical opportunities for students to explore new areas of interest and engagement while working cooperatively.For students aged 14+ the most important goal is to become independent and fully participating members of their communities. Blending vocational and life skills training will provide students opportunities to learn a variety of new skills and to gain control over their environment. The Life Skills Center will help students develop self-advocacy and independent living skills.
The goal of the Life Skills Program is for students: • To gain independence through vocational skills. • To create a setting for students to be successful and independent regardless of his/her disabilities. • To achieve transition by creating a bridge between the classroom and meaningful work or volunteer experiences.

A MESSAGE FROM DR. MARK CARLSON, CCCBSD PRESIDENT/EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
If you’ve recently passed by our campus, you will notice some changes taking place. Construction of a new 7,000 SF building to house our Life Skills program is underway. CCCBSD continues to support a diverse community of Deaf and special needs students. With 42 students currently in our Transition program, it is evident our facilities on campus must adapt to meet this growing student population.
With classroom learning and teaching spaces growing three-fold, CCCBSD has placed a major emphasis on supporting our older students, who are working on academic, leisure, and life skills.
Our new Life Skills Center will help our faculty and staff teach the critical skills needed for a smoother transition into adulthood. With a student kitchen, maker space, smart-lab, and vocational classroom, opening the new CCCBSD Life Skills Center in July will improve student outcomes and possibilities for the future.

Recognizing a young child’s family as the most critical educational support in their early life, the CCCBSD Parent Infant Program offers family support and education throughout the early intervention experience.
PIP is committed to providing deaf/hard of hearing children and their families with a comprehensive, intensive program, where American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English are equally valued and included.
The dedicated PIP teachers support language development in children with varying hearing levels. They are familiar with hearing amplification technologies and ways to maximize the benefits of consistent device use.
Our faculty, staff, and students appreciate your sincere generosity and support of PIP and our school. The program wouldn’t be possible without your ongoing commitment to this amazing program. Thank you.

At our 21st annual Soiree this year, we are truly excited to present our amazing Transition program. We are proud of our students ages 14 to 22 who are learning important vocational and life skills to enhance their future. Whether learning the process of shopping for items at the gro-cery store or partaking in their first work experience, there are many achievements to share!
As we look forward to our new Life Skills Center slated to open in July, we are reminded that it is the little things in life that truly matter. As our students achieve new goals, each progresses forward on their journey into adulthood with more confidence. We are honored to be part of their experiences and will continue to explore opportunities to enhance learning critical life skills for all of our students.
We honor all of our Transition students, faculty, and staff in honor of Joanie Vaughan Ingraham, for their willingness to put forward their best efforts in all of their endeavors.
