history Matters.eabh.

eabh supports research into all aspects of banking, insurance and financial history, from the earliest innovations in the middle-ages to developments since the industrial revolution and in the present.

eabh also maintains a European network of professionals and academics with the aim of strengthening the understanding of banking and finance. In so doing, we contribute to the effective management of the European financial sector and consequently its international competitiveness.

eabh primarily focuses its support on two distinct groups of people: The first consists of its member organisations, which include banks, insurance companies and financial institutions. This group benefits from eabh conferences and publications, which offer an opportunity to learn from the past in order to deal successfully with the challenges of the present.

The second group to benefit from the work of eabh consists of archivists and historians active in the field of banking and financial history. In order to support the present-day financial sector, it is necessary to maintain an accurate, accessible, and relevant record of past activities and experiences. Through conferences, workshops and publications, eabh supports the art of the archivist, and in so doing supports the circulation of sound information, upon which decisions about present challenges can be made.

ALFF: Archival Legislation for FinanceUnderstanding our times increasingly depends on the preservation of financial records. Authentic and reliable memory systems are needed to understand current crises and to evaluate risks. Reliable memory systems can only be created through knowing and understanding how corporations manage their archives in practice and what the organisational system is for doing so. Safeguarding the records of our financial institutions will improve the protection of global financial stability. For that reason, this project began in 2012 with the objective to collect information about the best practices of financial institutions in building and improving their archives. Therefore, we have developed a survey to collect data about the current framework of European financial institutions’ archival sytems.www.alff.eabh.info
