    The Indefinite Declension

    There are three adjectival endings for the indefinite declension, and these depend upon thegender and number of the qualified noun.

    1. For singular common nouns, the uninflected form of the adjective is used:

    en kall vinter - a cold inter

    en gr!n f"gel - a green bird

    #. For singular neuter nouns, -t is added to the uninflected form of the adjective$

    ett kalltbad - a cold bath

    ett gr!ntblad - a green leaf

    %. For the plural of both common and neuter nouns, -a is added to the uninflected form of

    the adjective:

    kallavintrar - cold inters

    gr!nablad - green leaves

    The Indefinite Neuter Form of Adjectives

    There are three important rules relating to the formatting of the indefinite neuter form of

    adjectives:

    1. Adjectives ending in -d preceded b& a consonant drop the -d and add the normal -t

    ending in the neuter. Adjectives ending in -d preceded b& a long voel drop the -d and

    add -tt:

    en h"rd vinter - a hard interett h"rtliv - a hard life

    en r!d sko - a red shoe

    ett r!tt'pple - a red apple

    #. Adjectives ending in -t preceded b& a consonant remain unchanged in theneuter. (onos&llabic adjectives ending in -t preceded b& a long voel form the neuter

    normall&:

    en tr!tt kvinna - a tired oman

    ett tr!tt barn - a tried childen vit kl'nning - a hite dress

    ett vitt hus - a hite house

    The Definite Declension

    There is onl& one adjectival ending in the definitive declension: -a is added to the uninflected

    form of the adjective for both common and neuter nouns, singular and plural. +n addition to thisadjectival ending, hoever, a special definite article form must precede the adjective, hile the

    modified noun retains its definite article suffi. The special definite article forms are: den, det

    and de.

    den storamannen - the big mandet storabarnet - the big child

    de storam'nnen - the big men

    de storabarnen - the big children

    The Plural and the Definite Form of Adjectives

    1. Adjectives ending in unstressed -al, -el, -en or -er drop the -a- or -e- hen -a is added

    to from the indefinite plural and the definite forms:

    en enkel regel - a simple rule

    enkla regler - simple rules

    den enklaregeln - the simple rule

    de enklareglerna - the simple rules

    Indeclinable Adjectives

    Adjectives that end in -a or -e are indeclinable, retaining the same form in both genders, singular

    and plural.

    en bra bok - a good bookett bra barn - a good child

    bra b!cker - good booksbra barn - good children

    2ome of the more important indeclinable adjectives are stilla quiet, g&llene golden, uddaodd, as in odd number and 'kta genuine.

    The indefinite form of adjectives is used not onl& predicativel& and after the indefinite articles en

    and ett, but also in the folloing constructions:

    1. After the indefinite adjectives m"ngen, n"gon, ingen and varje:

    n"gon gr!n f"gel - some green bird

    inga gr!na blad - no green leavesvarje vitt hus - ever& hite house

    #. After vilken and s"dan in eclamations:

    Use of the Definite Form of the Adjectives

    The definite form of adjectives is used ithout the definite article in the folloingconstructions:

    1. After a possessive adjective:

    #. After a demonstrative adjective:

    denna stora hund - this large dog
