7th India ProjectIntellectual Property Rights Summit
Since 2004, the George Washington University Law School in association with the Confederation of IndiaIndustry (CII) has hosted the IPR Summit in India as part of its India Project. The annual event seeks enhance education in the field of intellectual property (IP) law. Participants include leading academicindustry leaders, lawyers, judges and policymakers in the IP field from the U.S., Europe, India and othAsian countries.
The IPR Summit has certain distinct features: mock trials/moot courts that are held at an Indian univers(e.g., lIT-Delhi, National Law School in Bangalore) with US and Indian judges and lawyers; judicroundtables; court and patent office visits; and international conferences. Summit events have been held New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune and Goa.
From its inception, the IP Summit has attracted a stellar line-up of IP experts. The following judges haveparticipated: Hon. Randall R. Rader, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Sir Hugh Laddie, Chief Judge of the Patent Court of the U.K. (deceased) Hon. Dr. Meier-Beck, Patent Senate, German Federal Supreme Court Hon. Dalia Dorner, Israeli Supreme Court (retired) Hon. Barbara Rothstein, Director, U.S. Federal Judicial Center
Hon. Ronald Whyte, U.S. District Court, N.D. of California Hon. Michael Fysh, Patent Judge, UK Judge Ryoichi Mimura, Intellectual Property High Court of Japan Judge Toshiaki limura, Tokyo IP High Court
Participating academics have included: Dean Frederick Lawrence, Associate Deans John Whealan andSusan Karamanian and Professor Martin Adelman of the George Washington University Law School;Katsuya Tamai of the University of Tokyo, Dr. Ananda Chakrabarty, University of Illinois; Professor DavidNimmer of UCLA Law; and Dr. Eliora Ron, Tel-Aviv University.

Lawrence was pleasantly surprised that the flying objects moving in hdirection were rose petals being showered on their guest speaker by students of the 134-year old residentuniversity.
The Metropolitan Corporate Counselhas twice profiled GW Laws India Project. In a recent issue, AssociaDean Karamanian was quoted in an interview as follows: We have contributed to education by heighteninthe dialogue and understanding between India and the U.S. on IP law.
