Significant rainfall amount was received in most parts of the country, the highest rainfall amount was recorded in Awka (441.2mm). Rainfall distribution showed a wide distribution of 1-10 rain-days across the country. Most parts of the country experienced above normal soil moisture conditions while, some places in and around Dutse, Kaduna, Nguru, Sokoto had below normal soil moisture conditions. Sokoto recorded the highest mean maximum temperature with a value of 36.7 0 C across the country, while the mean minimum temperature across the country was observed at Jos (17.4 0 C). The maximum temperature anomaly showed that most parts of the country had colder than-normal temperature anomalies except Asaba that had below normal temperature anomalies.The northward movement of (ITD) is expected to continue with mean position of 18.0 0 N (well above the country). Land preparation and planting for rain fed agriculture are expected to continue across some parts of the northern states. Farmers should consult NiMet SRP for proper guidance especially the far North where the onset of rains are yet to be established. 1.0 Rainfall Pattern This section highlights the observed measurement of rainfall amount, rain-day, available soil moisture and their departures from 30-year average for the 2 nd dekad of June, 2017. 1.1 Rainfall Amount Figure 1: Rainfall Amount (mm) The observed rainfall amount recorded for the 2 nd dekad of June, 2017 is shown in figure 1. Heavy rainfall were reported in most parts of the southern and north central states. Thus, the southern states recorded rainfall amounts in places like Awka as the highest (441.2mm) followed by Warri (305.1mm), Ondo (280.5mm), Asaba (271.8mm), Enugu (234.4mm) Ijebu- Ode (203.6mm) and Ikeja (201.5mm). The North central states recorded significant rainfall amount in some places like Ilorin, Lafia, Minna, Jos, Lokoja, Potiskum recorded rainfall value of 260mm, 186.6mm, 136.2mm, 128.3mm, 128.2mm and 89.1mm respectively. Farmers across the northern zones are advised to consult NiMet Seasonal Rainfall Predictions (SRP) for proper growing season, planting dates. 1.2 Rainfall Departure. Figure 2 shows the rainfall departure during the 2 nd dekad of June, 2017. It revealed that the departure of rainfall from normal was above normal to normal in most parts of the country and below normal in Bidda, Kaduna, Sokoto, Zaria and Benin in the South. The distribution of rain-days revealed an increase in number of rain-days across the country especially the southern and central parts with values of 1-10 rain days when compare with the preceding dekad. Summary The agrometeorological bulletin for the 2nd dekad of June, 2017 is presented in this edition. Significant rainfall

1.4 Soil Moisture Index

The available soil moisture conditions across the

country for the dekad under review is shown in figure

4. However, most parts of the country had above

normal soil moisture conditions while, some places in

and around Dutse, Kaduna, Nguru and Sokoto had

below normal soil moisture conditions.

2.0 Temperature Trend This section highlights the maximum and minimum

temperature trends across the country and their

departures from 30-year average during the dekad.

2.1 Maximum Temperature Trend

The mean maximum temperature for 2nd dekad of

June, 2017 is shown in figure 5. The mean maximum

temperature decreased slightly across the country,

particularly over most parts of the northern states

when compared with the preceding dekad. The

highest maximum temperature was recorded at

Sokoto (36.70C).

2.2 Maximum Temperature Departure

The maximum temperature anomaly for the country is

shown in figure 6. It showed that most parts of the

country experienced colder than-normal temperature

anomalies except areas in around Asaba that had

below normal temperature anomalies.

2.3. Minimum Temperature

Figure 7 shows the mean minimum temperature across

the country for 2nd dekad of June, 2017. The lowest

value was recorded at Jos (17.40C).

2.4 Minimum Temperature Departure

that most parts of the country experienced normal to

3.0 Weather/Agricultural Outlook for 3rd dekad

(10-20) of June, 2017.

3.1 Weather Outlook

The Inter-Tropical Discontinuity (ITD) is expected to

continue its north ward movement with a mean

position well above the country (17.00N).

Sunny and cloudy conditions are expected over the

northern part of the country with chances of localised

rain showers towards afternoon to evening hours.

Partly cloudy to cloudy conditions are anticipated

across the central states with some prospects of

thundery activities/localised rains. Also there are

chances of localised rain showers towards afternoon

to evening hours. Some places in the inland and

coastal cities of the South may have prospects of

localize rainfall activities.

3.2 Agricultural Activities

With recent outbreak of diseases within the north-

western states Farmers are advised to consult the state

ADP’s for proper guidance. Land preparation and

planting of rain fed agriculture are expected to

continue across some parts of the far North. Farmers

are also advised to consult NiMet SRP for better

application and farming activities.
