Is the trip for me?Absolutely! The majority of people on the Cycle Ride won’t have done anything like this before so you will all be in the same boat! Most participants will be on the trip on their own although some may come along with friends or family. You won’t ever regret choosing to go on this challenge – and when else will you have the opportunity to make so many new friends in such a short space of time?!

How fit do I need to be?You don’t need to be an athlete to go on the Vietnam Cycle Ride however you will need to undertake a good level of training to get the very best out of the challenge. We will provide you with a comprehensive training plan to help you prepare for the trip and if you need any hints or guidance along the way we will be on hand to help you every step of the way.

Will I be able to raise the sponsorship money?YES! It may seem like a lot to raise if you have never done anything like this before but once you have started you will find that in no time you will be racing towards your target with ease! We have suggested a few sponsorship hints and tips in this brochure to help you start and our overseas managers are awash with fresh and original fundraising ideas should the need arise.

Can I stay on in Vietnam for longer?YES! For a nominal administration fee your flight can be extended (subject to availability) which will give you the opportunity to explore more of this fantastic country in your own time.

Will you help me?YES! Once you have signed up to the challenge a dedicated event manager is just a phone call away – right the way until you embark on the trip! There will also be a get together before the trip which gives you the chance to meet us and your fellow cyclists as well as swap fundraising and training ideas – and learn all about the challenge ahead!

What’s the food like? We’ll enjoy traditional Vietnamese cuisine along with delicious rice and noodle dishes with fish and chicken.

What do I need to bring? No specialist kit is required although you will need to bring your own cycle helmet and a gel saddle might be useful!

Will you carry my luggage whilst I’m cycling?YES! Your luggage will be carried separately in one of the support vehicles. You’ll just need a bum bag to carry those essentials like a camera and sun tan lotion!

When should I book my place on the trip?TODAY! Places are limited so avoid disappointment reserve your place as soon as possible!

How to raise the money...

For more fundraising tips call 020 7424 5511

THINK BIG!The average sponsorship level for the Vietnam Cycle Ride is around £3,000 so below we have indicated some tried and tested ideas to get you started.

Start by asking everyone you know – the more people you ask, the more you will raise! Try to get payment upfront to halve the effort, and ALWAYS start each sponsorship form with a generous sponsor as this will set a high standard for the rest. (It really does work!)

Ask your employer to sponsor you, too – many companies actually match pound for pound!

Here are some ideas:

Arrange a £10 menu at a local restaurant on one £400 of their quiet nights and charge 20 friends £20! (Do this twice as it’s so easy)

Hold a karaoke in your local pub for a percentage £200 of the drinks sales

2 car boot sales (get your family and friends to £150 have a clear out!)

Ask your local school to hold a non-uniform day £120

Place collection boxes in 5 outlets £160

Ask friends and family to take part in a local £200 sponsored walk/fun run or maybe even organise your own

Hold a quiz night with raffle £200

Dinner party or barbecue for 10 friends who £100 each pay £10

Hold a skills auction where you rope in friends £250 with certain skills (hairdressing / reflexology etc) to donate their skills for free

Persuade a friend to shave their head/legs/sit in £100 a bath of custard!

2 Friday night Three-legged Pub Crawls £300

Ask 10 close friends to write to everyone they know £300

Collect at a local football ground/supermarket £200 (get permission!)

Ask friends and family for sponsorship money £170 instead of Birthday/Christmas presents

Hold a raffle at a local event £150

TOTAL £3,000!

Tell the world! You are doing something quite amazing – make sure you tell EVERYONE – and let your local newspaper/radio know, too!

With a bit of thought, planning and some help from your friends, you’ll have reached the target before you know it – GO FOR IT!!!

The itinerary

For the experience of a lifetime call 020 7424 5511

Day 1Depart London for Hanoi

Day 2 Hanoi On arrival in Hanoi we transfer to our hotel in town. There will be time today for a full trip briefing before we eat together and sample our first taste of Vietnamese cuisine.

Day 3Hanoi to Hoa Binh to Mai Chau We transfer out of Hanoi early in a bid to beat the morning commuters. We arrive in the countryside area of Hoa Binh where we set off on our bikes and begin our challenge! The stunning green valley roads take us cycling along the roadside where stilt houses border the street. It’s not long before we face our first ascent. After regrouping we head down into the valley and into Mai Chau for our first nights rest. Approx 50km

Day 4Mai Chau to Moc Chau This will be a tough hilly day cycling but well worth the effort as you cycle 1,000 meters above sea level. Paddy fields fill the areas we cycle through making today a great opportunity to witness local life first hand. As we approach Moc Chau we are entering an area of traditional Thai minority cultures, traditional milk cake (banh sua) and tea are famous here! Approx 70km

Day 5Moc Chau to Son LaOur efforts of yesterday are compensated today with a morning of downhill! After some more traditional noodles for lunch we set off again on a more undulating section through lush, terraced rise paddies against a jagged cliff backdrop. Our overnight stop in Son La is an area steeped in French colonialism. Approx 120km

Day 6 Son La to Tuan Giao Today we embark on yet another stunning day of cycling. We tackle more climbs but as we cycle we are often met along the way by excited children who are fascinated by us. We are also in the area inhabited by the White Hmong tribes who are distinctive with their black head dresses decorated with colourful pompoms. Our day ends with a descent into Tuan Giao, positioned on the cross roads between Northern Vietnam and Laos. Approx 90km

Day 7 Tuan Giao to Dien Bien Phu As we leave the bustle of Tuan Giao we quickly rejoin the peaceful roads that we have become accustomed to. We

cycle through picturesque gorges, lush forest and farming communities with plenty of chances to greet the locals. Our route undulates with some more climbs to keep the legs moving before we arrive in Dien Bien Phu, famous for the Vietnamese overturning the French in 1954. Approx 80km

Day 8Dien Bien Phu to Muong Lay We leave Dien Bien Phu and push on experiencing more and more traditional and extremely rural towns and villages. Our route leads us through lush landscapes climbing to our next stop in Muong Lay and our authentic home for the night. Approx 100km

Day 9Muong Lay to Lai ChauToday’s ride has some of the most spectacular scenery in Vietnam as you follow the course of the river. Lots of small towns in this area of the northwest have very recently been renamed by the Vietnamese government often using previous town names making it all quite confusing. Once you have got your head round that it’s time to tackle the long afternoon climb before we cycle the shorter descent to our bed for the evening. Approx 100km

Day 10 Lai Chau to Sapa Our final day on two wheels and we are set for a stunning ride with a final climb that is breathtaking in its grandeur, length and sense of remoteness. It will take you over the highest pass in South East Asia with glorious views of Mount Fansipan, the tallest mountain in Vietnam. As we reach Heaven’s Gate we celebrate our achievement before embarking on the final ride downhill into the mountainous town of Sapa. Here we park our bikes for the final time and prepare for the evenings celebrations! Approx 50km

Day 11 Sapa to Hanoi After spending a relaxing morning exploring Sapa and the many hidden markets we meet our transport and transfer to Lao Cai where we will board our overnight train back to Hanoi. A fun and memorable way to end our Vietnamese experience.

Day 12Hanoi An early morning arrival back in Hanoi gives us a short time to freshen up before we head to the airport to commence our journey back to London.

Day 13 Arrive London
