Transforming a Nation by Providing Safe Study Lights for StudentsAfter 12 Tanzanian schoolgirls were killed in their dormitory by a candle fire in 2009, d.light partnered with multimedia platform Femina HIP, local governments, and schools to launch the “Right to Safe Light” campaign. The campaign’s goal was to provide every student in Tanzania with safe, bright solar lighting to improve their studying conditions and to prevent such a tragedy from ever happening again.

Improving Educational Performance Through Solar Study Lights
In the spring of 2010, India-based education NGO Sikshana Foundation provided d.light solar lights for 84 tenth-standard students in Kanakapura, Ramanagara district, in the Indian state of Karnataka. The bright solar lighting successfully increased daily study time and positively im-pacted test scores.

Solar Lighting boosts Learning & Education
Solar Energy Enhances Study Hours And School Performance
A research led by Tajen University and Sagduru Foundation monitored the benefits on children’s study hours from introducing solar photovoltaic lanterns. 100 solar lanterns were distributed to a sample of 100 women in 25 villages of the Dahod District (Gujarat State, India). On average, their household composition was 5 to 6 people, with 2 school-age children.
