Ro’fest

A week long exhibition to celebrate Rotaract Festival not only introduced Rotaract Club to our fellow schoolmates but also provided people with chances to draw Christmas cards for the Blind for our community service - “Party with the blind”. The "Joint-Universities High Table Dinner" made another highlight of the Festival.

Fund Raising

Through the first two weeks of school, we held a charity sale “Valentines Around the World”, selling a wide variety of products to raise funds for Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) “Doctors Without Borders”. The following sunny Saturday morning, we held a charity walk ‘Peakathon’ all the way up from Main Campus to the Peak.

Community Service Party with the

Blind

Party with the blind was held successfully on 11th November. Our participants held several games and sang traditional songs for the Blind. We were glad that both the people we served and our participants enjoyed the performance very much. The birthday cake and lucky were a fitting finish to this cheerful party. Our participants happily shared their feelings after the even and some of them reflected on their attitude towards the discrimination we have in Hong Kong while some expressed their happiness to serve.

Community Service Caring for the

Homeless

The last visit of “Caring for the homeless” was held successfully on 25 January, 2013. We prepared them with some fruits and daily necessities. The service turned out to be exceptionally good. We have learned more about their living conditions as well as their respective reason of being homeless. Many of them were willing to share their stories in the past and their recent conditions. In turn participants took the chance to show care to the homeless and shared their views during the evaluation session. At last, we really thank the centre for assisting us for so much in these three services.

Community Service Visiting the

Solitary Elderly

Our last community service for this year – “Visiting the solitary elderly”, was successfully held on 2 Feb, 2013. We wanted to share the joy of Chinese New Year by using recycled red packets to make handmade goldfish. Mandarin oranges were given to them as gifts. We were fortunate that each group did manage to visit at least one elderly. Our members were enthusiastic and they showed their love to the solitary elderly. In return, apart from knowing more about the their life and needs of the solitary elderly, many of them even told us their political views and stories in the past. Our participants learnt a lot, some of them were even inspired by the positive attitude of some elderly who lived their lives to the fullest even their beloved ones were not with them. Some participants also told us that they are going to spend more time and show more care to their parents and grandparents.

International Service Advent Australia

2013

After a whole year of preparation, we finally visited Sydney, Southern Highlands and Canberra in our annual winter international service delegation--Advent Australia 2013 on January! We are very happy to have 3 Rotaract Clubs, including Sydney City Rotaract Club, Rotaract Club of Southern Highlands and Rotaract Club of Canberra, to host us in this 11-day service trip.

International Service Advent Australia

2013

It is a really unforgettable and valuable experience to visit Australia for community service. We worked together on various jobs with the disable people in the Challenge Southern Highlands. We have also worked in the centre of Police Citizen Youth Club and in a community shop operated by the Salvation Army. We will never forget the joy to share our love and care beyond our homeland. During the trip, although we were exhausted after whole-day volunteering work, we all think that the sweat and the effort just worth it when we saw the big smile on our service targets. Apart from community service, another highlight of this trip would definitely be the cultural exchange activities. We visited the University of Sydney. Many of us were amazed by the vast difference between HKU and the University of Sydney! The concert of the Sydney Festival was also very impressive! Besides, we had a cultural party with the local Rotaractors and Rotarians. We shared with each other our lives and culture and tried some classic dishes of Australian. Not only is our horizon widen through interaction with the local Rotaractors and Rotarian, precious friendship is also built between Australian Rotaractors and us.

International Service Advent Australia

2013

Some elements of Professional Development were also integrated in this trip. We learnt a lot from the career talk regarding fishing career opportunity and interpersonal skills given by Mr. Richard Poi. The vinery tour, wine and cheese tasting was also impressive. This international service trip is truly a valuable and eye-opening trip that changed our perception towards Australia. I am sure that all of us will never forget the warmth and passion we experienced from Rotaractors and the joy of serving in a foreign country.

Professional Development

Career Development Workshop 2012 – How to survive the first 89.9 days of work?

Everyone feels anxious about their new job, especially us the university students who are less experienced. With the support of our mother club, Rotary Club of Hong Kong, we are proud to have organized this workshop on 1st December in HKU. This workshop aims to equip our members with essential “survival” skills for the first three months of work, i.e. the probation period. We have invited senior advisors from different industries, including music, financial, law, human resources and interior-design industries. They shared their precious experience on how to deal with office politics, horrible bosses and different cooperation cultures through lively role-plays and interaction with our participants. The workshop was considered a great success as we are far more confident to face challenges at workplace waiting ahead.
