rifice. All died for freedom. All

    died on our behalf.1

As we prepare for Memorial Day,

we might well ask ourselves: Am

I worth their sacrifice? Am I

grateful to them? What might I be

willing to give to bring peace and

    freedom to the world?

    On the beaches of Normandy

During World War II, the Allies

    carried out amphibious assault

landings on June 6, 1944. In the

    ensuing battle, thousands of

young men and women lost their

lives. Not far from the landing

site, there is now a very large well

    -groomed cemetery with a beauti-

ful chapel at one end. In the

chapel one finds an altar of black

    and gold Pyrenees marble en-

graved with the inscription: I Give

Unto Them Eternal Life And They

    Shall Never Perish.1

In graves in front of the chapel, lie the bodies of 9,387 service

    men and women. Each headstone

    identifies the person buried there,

with the exception of 307 whose

    bodies were unidentified. Nearby

there is a stone tablet telling of

1,557 men and women who died

in battle but whose bodies were

    never found.1

Walking through the cemetery is a

    heart-rending experience. Tears

    come easily. Here are generals

    buried beside privates, blacks be-

    side whites, Jews beside Chris-

    tians, Americans from 49 states

plus the District of Columbia and

Guam. Each paid the ultimate sac-

    Vietnam Vet. Recognition this Sunday

The Week at a GlanceAngel Mother

Nancy Hanks Lincoln was still a young woman when she died. Her little boy, Abraham, was only nine. Still, Nancy had taught Abraham so well that he never forgot her guid-

ance. He often said of his mother: All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my angelmother.

On one occasion, Lincoln said, I remember my mothers prayers and they have alwaysfollowed me. They have clung to me all my life.

Many times we are asked, Who is my

    deacon?

To help you, we will list the Deacon of the Week

and his list of families in the WLBC Bulletin

ENewsletter. There will be a complete list posted

on the bulletin board near the church office. This

complete list is alphabetical by your last name.

We hope this will help you know who your deacon

is for the year. If you have any questions, please

feel free to contact the church office.

An old dollar bill and an even older $20 arrive at a Federal Reserve Bank to be retired."I've had a pretty good life," the $20 says. "I've been to Vegas, the finest restaurants inNew York, and even on a Caribbean cruise."

"You did have an exciting life!" the dollar says.

"Where have you been?" the $20 asks."Oh, I've been to the Methodist church, the Baptist church, spent some time with the

    Lutherans..."

    "Wait," the $20 interrupts. "What's a church?"

The gifts [Christ] gave were that some would

be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists,

some pastors and teachers . wrote St. Paul

in his letter to the Ephesians (4:11).1What was the purpose of these people?1

    A. to be blown about by every wind of doctrine1B. to equip the saints for the work of ministry,

for building up the body of Christ1

    C. to work honestly with their hands so as to

have something to share with the needy1D. to put away falsehood and speak the truth

Hint: The answer is in Ephesians 4:12.
