    Food for Thought

Someone once wrote a letter to the

    local newspaper that said,

Ministers seem to feel their ser-

mons are very important, so they

spend a great deal of time prepar-

    ing them. Ive been attending

church regularly for over 30 years, and Ive probably heard about

1,500 sermons. The awful truth is

that I cant remember a single one!

I wonder if a ministers time might

be better spent on something else.

That Sunday, a minister read the

letter to his congregation and said

hed be interested in any replies

the congregation might wish tosend to him.

    The following Sunday, the minister

    reported that hed received many

    responses, most of them expres-

sions of indignation aimed at the

    anonymous letter writer. He

    thanked the church members for

the responses but said he was most

thankful for one in particular, whichhe then read to the gathering.

I have been married for 30 years.

During that time, I have eaten well

    over 32,000 meals mostly my

wifes cooking but I cant re-

member the menu of a single meal.

    Returning The Favor

    When a mother came home

from the hospital, she had to be

    confined to bed for several

    days. Her 9-year-old daughter

    came home

    from school

    one af- ternoonand peeked

    into her moth-

    ers room. Thinking that her

mother was asleep, the little girl

    tiptoed into the room, quietly

unfolded the blanket at the foot

of the bed, and gently tucked it

    around her mother. The mother

stirred, and then whispered,You know, it wasnt too long

ago that I was tucking you in.

And now youre doing it for me.

    Thank you.

    The daughter replied, Thats

    okay; around here we take

    turns.

Of course I can recall some of my

favorite dishes, but not the men-

us. And yet, I received the nour-

ishment from every single one of

them. I have the distinct impres-

sion that without them, I would

have starved to death long ago.

Art Linkletter, the well-known television star, au-

    thor and lecturer, was dealt

    the most painful experience

of his life when his young-

    est daughter, Diane, died.

    She casually experimented

with the drug LSD and sub-

    sequently took her own

    life. It was Arts darkest

    hour.

    After a period of mourning,

    Art decided to work against

    drug abuse so other fami-

    lies wouldnt suffer a simi-

lar fate. He embarked on a

Many times we are asked, Who is my

    deacon?

To help you, we will list the Deacon of the Week

and his list of families in the WLBC Bulletin

ENewsletter. There will be a complete list posted

on the bulletin board near the church office. This

complete list is alphabetical by your last name.

We hope this will help you know who your deacon

is for the year. If you have any questions, please

feel free to contact the church office.

    A Gift for Mom

The three young children told their mother that she wasnt to lift a finger onMothers Day. They were going to do all the cooking. So, they got out three pots,

two frying pans, six measuring spoons, three mixing bowls, a double boiler, achopping board and eight serving dishes.

Mom said it was the best Jell-O she had ever tasted!

After the Resurrection, the apostle Philip

was on the road to Gaza when he came up-

on an Ethiopian official sitting in a chariot.

The man, on a return trip from worshiping

in Jerusalem, was reading aloud. As Philip

approached, he recognized the words that

the official was reading: Like a sheep he

was led to the slaughter (Acts 8:32,NRSV).

Philip knew they were the words of what

    Jewish prophet?

    A. Amos

    B. Micah

    C. Hosea

    D. Isaiah

The answer is in Acts 8:30.
