events that took place at Carnuntum and changed the world and culture forever. In the name of the Four Tetrarchs appointed in Carnuntum, Galerius issued the Nicomedia Edict of Tolerance (today the City of Izmit) in 311 AD, which was extended by Constantine the Great and Licinius through the Edict of Milan in 313 AD, thus granting religious liberty to all creeds.

Besides the competition, the race also aimed to show the landscapes and attractions of Serbia as a tourist destination. According to the organizers, this year’s event was the biggest so far according to the number of participants and the quality of teams was of the highest level. The race started in Nis and finished in Belgrade. The sections ended in Kragujevac, Bajina Basta, Pale (in Bosnia-Herzegovina) and Ruma. For several years the race through Serbia has been organized under the motto Tourism and Cycling Together. This year the race announced next year event with the emphasis on celebrating the great jubilee - 17 centuries since the signing of the Edict of Milan. That was why the race started in today’s Nis,

and former Naissus, the birthplace of Roman Emperor Constantine. The race passed through few more cities of the Roman Empire on the territory of today’s Serbia, such as Sirmium and Baziana, and the finish was in Singidunum, today’s Belgrade. Next year the race will cover the entire route of the tour in the footsteps of Roman emperors especially those of Constantine. It is a tourist trip that connects 17 cities in Serbia where Roman emperors were born.

Under the motto Tourism and Cycling Together the 52nd International Cycling Race through Serbia was held from June 12 to 17.

Workshop participants were introduced to examples of best-practice in corporate social responsibility and discussed the potential for cooperation among public, private and civic sectors in philanthropy, corporate volunteering and support for youth employment. SLDP and Smart Kolektiv organized the conference in partnership with the Nis Office for Local Economic Development and the Regional Development Agency South.

The Sustainable Local Development Project signed subcontract with the SMart Kolektiv to support pilot Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives at the inter-municipal level. After assessing the existing awareness of CSR concept, Smart Kolektiv will develop a Manual, undertake capacity building activities, and help counterparts develop four practical CSR proposals in Nis, Novi Sad and Vranje inter-municipal partnership areas.

Representatives of the Business Leaders Forum, including large corporations such as Telekom Serbia, Holcim and Philip Morris, CSOs, local government and regional development agencies participated in a SLDP-supported CSR workshop in the Nis-led inter-municipal cooperation (IMC) area, where potential CSR projects were developed.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ACTIVITIES

This year, the doors have been opened to other ideas and programmes that received funds via independent competition. This means that associations, humanitarian and non-governmental organisations, individuals, youth talents and other interested parties individually applied for NIS support in projects regarding sports, culture, environment, science and humanitarian activities. According to the Agreement on Social and Economic Cooperation for 2012 signed between the City of Nis and NIS a.d. (Petroleum Industry of Serbia), 50 per cent of the available funds have been allocated independently by the municipality/city, and the remaining 50 per cent were intended for projects

selected via public competition. The Commission decided to support following associations and organizations from Nis: Association of Single Mothers (200.000 RSD for the project of providing support to families with the children with disabilities), Nisville Jazz Festival ( 3 million RSD), City of Nis Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (400.000 RSD for participation at Rome Music Festival), Nis Graphic Circle (400.000 RSD for the project of International Biennale of Small Graphics), Association ANIMA (400.000 RSD for International Colony of Animated Film for Children), Agro-touristic-ecological association “Za Jelasnicu” (200.000 RSD for summer basketball tournament)and Nis National Theatre (400.000 RSD for the project Festival of Monologues).

As a part of the corporate social responsibility programme Cooperation for Development NIS a.d. (Petroleum Industry of Serbia) granted funds via public competition for project in the field of sports, culture, environment, science and humanitarian activities for 2012. NIS has until now supported priority projects selected by municipalities and cities.
