Please consider the following when using data published in the Demographics Book:

• First, our quality control efforts strive for consistent reporting of enrolled students and use a distinct count measure to avoid counting duplicates. Earlier editions of the Demo Book were less rigorous but we believe that these issues had only a modest impact on historical data. However, users should refrain from using data reported in earlier editions of this document. If additional history is required, please contact IR for data support.

• Since Summer 2017, IR has used the data warehouse to report on student data. Use of the data warehouse enables IR to track all student majors, rather than providing data only for primary majors under the traditional reporting system. Therefore, student major counts now reflect slightly higher counts than in the past.

• All trend data use the same methodology for the past 5 years. In other words, the 5-year trends presented all reflect data extracted from the Banner student information system (including incomplete or inaccurate records) and processed in the data warehouse. Data users should be aware that Official Census tracking in the data warehouse system only began with the Fall 2012 term. If you require comparable data prior to Fall 2012, contact IR for assistance.

• The official census date is set after the last day to drop a class; generally following the tenth day of classes for Fall and Spring terms and the fifth day of classes for Summer terms.

• The totals of some tables may not reconcile to other related tables (e.g, University or College) due to the absence of gender and age information for a small number of students.

• The Demo Book now consistently reports headcounts on a “Distinct Student” basis. This prevents us from counting the same student multiple times but can cause some confusion. For example, a student with a double-major could be counted in two different departments (one for each major) but only once at the college level and for the university. A student that double-majors across two separate colleges would be counted in two departments and colleges (one for each major) but only once at the university level. Major counts can be generated from the data warehouse if needed to provide counts from students declaring multiple majors in the same department or college.

• Students are not associated with a college until they declare a major, but this group is reported on in this report’s final section, “Undeclared Majors”.

First _lbl OC Date for Intro

This report represents the June 7, 2021 Official Census and includes data for comparable Official Census days fromSummer 2017 through Summer 2021. Users should keep in mind that block scheduling allows for later enrollment, andrecognize that enrollment data representing the Official Census may not be the most appropriate point-in-time for allanalyses. The Official Census is less representative for the Summer term than it is for Fall and Spring terms.
