ANNE HUBBLE (Aldonza / Dulcinea)This marks Anne's fourth appearance for WVLO, her latest in our last

production, "Perfectly Frank", Her impressive backqround includes 5years of ballet, 2 years of acting and 12 years of voice and over 16productions ranging from opera to Gilbert & Sullivan and straight plays.Anne's ambition is to go as far as she can with the abilities she'sdeveloped. Don't look now, but we think she's going a long way!

ROBERT BERGMAN (Sancho Panza)Bob appears in his fifth production with WVLO. Regular subscribers

will remember him in "Oklahoma" "Pajama Game" "Good News" and"Perfectly Frank". He's also pertormed with G&S, CAST, SCP, SJChildren's Music Theatre, and Foothill College Summer Theater. Bobearned his JD Degree from the School of Law at the University of SantaClara and is currently a practicing attorney in San Jose. If you needlegal advice, Bob has his card handy.

BRIAN THOMPSON (Governor / Innkeeper)This is Brian's third show with us on this stage; "Brigadoon" was his

first and then "Oklahoma" when he was cast as Jud. In the meantimehe has portrayed a gangster in "Kiss Me, Kate" for SCP and severalcomic leads in G&S productions. He makes the best truffle you've evertasted and so we're always glad when he's able to do our show. Didyou ever get the feeling we love you for your truffle, Brian? That's reallynot true!

RICHARD NEWMAN (Dr. Carrasco)Rich makes his debut with WVLO in this production, but has a long

list of other performing credits with SCP, CAST, Encore Productionsand the Gaslighter Theatre. His major leading and supporting roleswere in such productions as "Bye, Bye Birdie", "Pippin", "Hello, Dolly","Music Man", "Once Upon a Mattress", "Side By Side By Sondheim",and "Dilemma At the Toll Road Inn". Rich is majoring in Radio and TVFilm at DeAnza College and his ambition is to become a "working actor"so we wish him well. (That means he wants to get paid for doing this!)Look for him on Broadway someday for his talent and physique arebound to get him there.

SUSAN REYNOLDS (Antonia)Sue is also making her debut with WVLO. This is the first time she

has ventured to the South Bay; she's concentrated her theatrical talentswith SCP in Sunnyvale and CAST in Cupertino. For five years she wasthe lead vocalist with a band called "The Satin Dolls" which performedin clubs all over the Bay Area. Sue's leading roles in "Carousel","Oklahoma", "Hello, DOily", "Pajama Game", and "Side By Side BySondheim" brought her excellent reviews from the local critics. She iscurrently studying journalism and acting at SJSU and studying voicewith Elizabeth Allan. She's looking forward to a career either .as, aRadio / TV journalist or in the recording industry. With Sue's ability, spunk and determination, we know she can do it.

CARL BALLOU (Pedro)"Man of La Mancha" will be Carl's eleventh production with WVLO. He

was last seen as Action in "West Side Story", but most regulars willremember him for his role of Hines in. "Pajama Game" for which he won"Best Actor Award". Carl is such a versatile young man; he is at homeanywhere in the theater, on stage as well as behind the scenes asLighting Designer, stage crew, etc. Even though he is a graduate ofSJSU in Theatre Arts, Carl is a professional photographer and we arealways grateful to him for providing program and lobby photos. OK,Carl, who took this picture of you???

JOAN BRENNAN (Maria)As a long-time member of our traveling troupe, "The Overtures", Joanis a familiar face to our regular subscribers. This also happens to beher sixth production with us, her most recent in "The Student Prince"earlier this season when she stepped into the rold of the Grand Duchessin the middle of the run. She's also appeared in "Most Happy Fella" forSDG, "6 Rms, Riv Vu" for SJTheater Guild, "Mikado" and "Yeoman ofthe Guard" for G&S, "70, Girls, 70" for SCP, etc. etc., etc. As aregistered nurse, Joan uses theater to "keep sane in an insane world".And she does keep busy for when she's not on stage, you'll find herbackstage with any number of groups as a stage hand, doing props, helping with costumes or whatever. She's just a very talented, versatilegal that enjoys singing, painting and hunting for antiques.

GEORGEnE LAMPROS (Housekeeper)Georgette is another newcomer to our group and to community theater, but not new to the stage. She was in several plays in high school, andcollege and has been singing with choral groups in the Bay Area. Sheperforms as a monologist for private organizations and has had someradio and TV experience, too. With hobbies of skiing, dancing, swimming, golf and bridge, she still wants to continue with communitytheater. That means she will be one busy lady!

MAn LEAHY (Padre)Matt also joins our ranks for the first time. He most recently appeared

in SCP's "Sugar" as Jerry and Daphne in which he displayed his finecomic flair. He performed in 15 SJCLO productions in chorus, characterand leading roles opposite Michele Lee, Tommy Tune, Jo Anne Worley,Ken Berry and Van Johnson. Some of his SJCLO credits are "PaintYour Wagon", "Hello, Doily", "Man of La Mancha", and "Carousel". Hewas seen as Peter in "Jesus Christ Superstar" for the Palo Alto Playersand Corporal in "Shenandoah" for Villa Montalvo. Matt is the recipientof 7 Ginny Award from SJCLO and also received the EI Camino NationalThespian Society Award. A corporate administrator, Matt likes writing, record collecting, John Irving books, "Days of Our Lives" and JohnDenver.

DAVID CHEANEY (Barber V Muleteer)Another young man making his debut with WVLO, Dave has appeared

in many productions locally for CAST,SCP, SJCLO and SJSU TheatreDepartment. Musicals including "Hello, Doily", "Music Man","Carousel", "Gypsy", "Charlie Brown" are just a few which have featuredhim in major leading roles. With 2years of dance, 4 years of vocaltraining, and all these credits, it's no wonder he wants to pursue acareer in TV or on the stage. Dave is planning to attend UC Irvine thisfall, majoring in Theatre Arts so we'll say farewell to him for at least 4years. But don't forget us, Dave, there's always a role to spotlight yourtalents!

PROGRAM NOTE

Miguel de Cervantes, a contemporary of Shakespeare, lived a sparse life. It isknown that he was born in 1547. He was a student, traveler, soldier, sailor, publicservant, playwright, poet and novelist. As a soldier, he was taken captive, spending five years in slavery in Africa. Under the Spanish Inquisition he wasimprisoned several times for "offences against His Majesty's Most CatholicChurch", narrowly escaping more drastic punishment. Aging, infirm and an utterfailure, he wrote Don Quixote to make money. Volume I, published when he was58, brought him fame, but little profit. Volume II, written ten years later, insuredhis immortality as author of the world's greatest novel. His view of humanity, rich and complex, enhanced by sympathetic humor, is the basis for this musicalcharade. Today, three centuries after his creation of Don Quixote, the beloved, lean old knight is better known and remembered than Cervantes, himself. It is theyearning of Don Quixote for a better world, one filled with grace and service thathas kept him alive until now, and will indeed keep him alive forever.

KEVIN CORMIER (Director I Choreographer)Fresh from his theatrical triumphs of "Hello, Dolly" for Sunnyvale

Community Players (SCP) and "Side By Side By Sondheim" forCupertino Actors Studio Theatre (CAST), Kevin makes his directorialdebut with West Valley light Opera. For the past ten years, Kevin hasplayed major leading and supporting roles in 24 various localproductions of the popular Broadway musicals and plays. He startedchoreographing for Fremont High School in 1976 and began hisdirecting career later that same year. He now lists over 20 productionsin his directorial credits and all this while earning his BA Degree inTheatre Arts from San Jose State University. He has taught BeginningActing and held Make-Up Seminars for several schools and groups inthe Bay Area and plans to pursue his MA in Theatre Arts in order toteach at the university level. We feel fortunate to have this talented andversatile young man direct our final production of the season.

WANDA SAXTON (Music Director)Wanda is no stranger to our audiences. She has waved her mighty

baton for several of our musicals, her most recent being "The StudentPrince", our season opener. Wanda is very excited because she is only3 credits and a thesis away from her Master's Degree in TheatreArts-Drama at SJSU. We know she'll make it and we're all very proud ofher. But Wanda has not always been a music director. She possessesa very beautiful soprano voice and has appeared on stage in productionsof "Music Man" and "Hello, Dolly" for Saratoga Drama Group (SDG).She gives private instruction in piano, organ, voice, guitar, etc. and herhobby is (what else?) community theater. Her smiling face and happydisposition are always welcome on our staff.

GENE PINCUS (Associate Producer I Stage Manager)This face and voice are well known to hundreds of WVLO theater goers

and KBAY listeners. As Secretary of our Board of Directors, Gene hasproduced and stage managed several of our musicals. In addition to histechnical credits, Gene was bitten by the acting bug a coupld of yearsago and has an impressive list of acting credits from appearing in suchdramatic plays as "Inherit The Wind", "The Deadly Game", "SunshineBoys" and "To Kill a Mockingbird", to name a few. We're still trying toget him on our stage, but he insists it will have to be in a 'non-singing'role!

ELIZABETH DALE (Assistant Director,' Assistant Stage Manager)"Betty" has been working with theater groups since 1979 in various

capacities. She has been stage manager, worked props, costumes, stage crew and even sound for WVLO, CAST, Montalvo and SAN JoseCivic light Opera (SJCLO). With husband, Les and daughter, Julie.interested in theater, you just know she lists community theater as oneof her hobbies along with cooking and sewing. Wonder where she findstime to cook and sew!

ED HOWIE (Technical Director)It has been several years since "Big Ed" worked with WVLO, but we're

glad to welcome him back. He has had extensive experience in setdesign, tech directing and lighting· and earned his Business Degree fromSJSU. Community Players awarded Ed a CAT award for his outstandingset design for "Ten little Indians." SDG, Theaterwest, Montalso'sCarriage House Theater and Los Gatos High School have also beenrecipients of Ed's technical efforts and endeavors. Someday, he wantsto own and operate a dinner theatre in Santa Clara Valley. We wish himwell and hope he succeeds so we can go and "sing for our supper"!
