August 28, 2020

Back to school is approaching quickly and we have developed a plan to implement new routines to minimize student contact and increase the safety of our school community.

Please review the following routines with your child/children.

ELEMENTARY KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 8 STAGGERED ENTRY

We will be having a “staggered entry” for all students this year. This means that all students will come to school with approximately half of their classmates on alternating days for the first two weeks of school. This will allow us to carefully review and establish safety routines with fewer students in the building. We are referring to these two groups as Cohort A and Cohort B. Parents will soon receive a phone message identifying which cohort their child will be in. ELEMENTARY REMOTE LEARNING KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 8 STAGGERED ENTRY

BEFORE COMING TO SCHOOL EACH DAY COVID-19 Screening:

● All parents must screen their children every day before leaving home for symptoms of COVID-19. If there are symptoms, children need to stay home from school. If COVID-19 is suspected, testing is recommended.

● Link to self-screening tool

WHAT TO BRING TO SCHOOL

Please keep your child’s personal items to a minimum! To support a safe and comfortable environment, students are asked to bring the following items clearly labelled with the student’s name:

● Knapsack or tote bag for personal belongings ● Face masks - they may need more than one (medical or cloth are acceptable) ● Personal water bottle ● Seasonal outdoor wear (we are not requiring ‘indoor shoes’ at this time) / hat ● Only those items that are necessary for the day (e.g., pencil case, calculator, pens,

pencils) ● Students may bring their own devices, but they must be wiped by the student upon entry

and before leaving at the end of the day Note: Lockers and change rooms will not be used for the 2020-2021 school year. Students will be required to keep all personal belongings with them throughout the day. Note: Additional information will be provided to families about how the school will help students manage winter boots and coats when cold weather arrives.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT CLASS MY CHILD IS IN?

In the next few days you will receive a phone message from the Board indicating whether your child is in Cohort A-L or M-Z . More information to come regarding your child’s return to school date. Your child is only to attend school on the correct cohort dates. (A-L or M-Z)

FIRST DAY PROCEDURES

1. Teachers will be outside by the entry door that aligns with your child’s grade holding up their name and grade.

2. Teachers in vests will have class lists. They will let you know what class your child is in if you are not sure.

LATE ARRIVAL If you child arrives late:

1. Drop off your child at the main entrance doors 2. Parents please do not enter the building 3. If arriving between 8:45 and 8:55 your child can go

straight to class 4. If arriving later than 8:55, please call the office 519-837-9582 and someone will meet

your child at the door to provide a late slip

At entry and dismissal times, parents are to remain outside the school and adhere to physical distancing protocols. Please help us to make this successful by dropping off or picking up your child and quickly exiting the school property.

DESIGNATED ENTRY DOOR/CLASS LOCATION

To facilitate speedy entry in the morning and to limit unnecessary travel through the building, each grade/class will be assigned an entry/exit door. This will be the only door that students will use for entering the building, for accessing outdoor activities (and recess) and departing at the end of the school day. Door A – Primary Door Door B – Intermediate Door (black top) Door C – Intermediate Door (back of school) Portable Lines (Entry Lines Map will be sent next week)

ENTERING THE BUILDING

● Entry to school by class, single file, maintaining physical distancing led by the teacher ● Students will enter and exit the building in an orderly, controlled manner ● All students and staff must sanitize their hands and put on masks upon entry into school
