and, just like Old MacDonald. Sing the traditional
ng, but instead of listing the various animals on the
rm, sing the following:And on his farm stand he ha d
me . . . then point to a child, and have him or her call
ut the name of his or her favorite fruit or vegetable. For
ample: Old MacDonal d had a farm, E-I-E-I-O. And
his farm stand he had some ca rrots, E-I-E-I-O!Then
stead of the various animal sounds, use a vegetable-
ting sound such as crunch, crunch.
How Old MacDonald Grew His Farm
This book gives a wonderful and detailed description of
how fruits and vegetables are grown. Discuss the process
of gardening with the children. Ask them to recall the
steps involved in growing the vegetables. Using thereproducible, ask children to cut out the pictures and
assemble them in the correct order to recreate how crops
are grown. Invite them to use a crayon to draw rain and
sun to add to the experience.
