We may be almost a third of

the way through 2006, but

2005 isn’t quite finished

with SVA yet. The Great

Design Show, a new

competition honoring great

graphic design, has selected

Book of the Year, the

College’s 2005 yearbook, as

one if its award-winning

entries. The yearbook is

designed by students from each year’s graduating class, under

the guiding hand of creative director and faculty member

Genevieve Williams. MFA Design Department faculty

member Stefan Sagmesiester was also selected by The Great

Design Show, in recognition of his work on the Talking

Heads’ Once in a Lifetime CD box set.

The Book of the Year also got a nod from STEP Inside Design

magazine, which honored the book in its 2006 Trend Report.

The magazine assembled a panel of five judges to identify

trendsetting work in several categories, and the yearbook

headed the “Editorial” section. In addition, each judge got to

choose a single work, from any category, as a “Judge’s Pick.”

Dana Lytle, cofounder and creative director of Planet

Propaganda, picked the BFA Advertising and Graphic Design

Department’s 2004 Senior Library, a boxed collection of slim

volumes, designed by faculty member Carin Goldberg and

filled with the best work by the department’s graduating

seniors.
