HAVE YOU TRIED OUR ORGANIZED SHOOTS?

They are fun and will improve your shooting skills. Shoot Trap and Five Stand and watch your hits on birds in the field improve. Shoot any of the rifle events and you will be amazed at how your ability to hit a deer, elk, or wild boar will improve. Not sure that you have the correct firearm for any specific match? All of the Match Directors will be happy to answer your questions about equipment required, course of fire, etc. Oft times a firearm you already own will suffice to participate and determine if that type of shooting is for you. Fire the National Match Course and qualify to buy firearms from the Civilian Marksmanship Program. The Association owns M-1 Garands which you may use to shoot this match. You are always welcome at any match as a spectator. The shooters and Match Director will answer your questions as they have time. The Cowboy Shooters have practice sessions, a great place to start if you have an interest in shooting pre-1890 guns or replicas. Nooter's Notes Continued from Page 2

NOW A FEE FOR JUNIOR RIFLEStarting with the September match, it is necessary to institute a $2 charge for all participants. This is due to the cost of running the event. There is no charge for Junior Trap or Pistol at this time.

LEFT THE RANGEBob “Ponytail” Schoenfield (Life Member) passed away Tuesday, August 14 after a long battle with cancer. Bob joined EF&GA on Sept 14, 2006. Bob shot Trap and was the Trap Master for a time.

Warren Hill, a long-time gun enthusiast, participated in various shooting protocols and was a Life Member of EF&GA, passed away on August 17th of advanced prostate cancer. Warren became a member on June 13, 1996. He served regularly as a Range Master, loved the range and spent many hours on various work projects, particularly keeping the ranges mowed and clean. Because of his efforts, the range was spared serious damage when the big fires swept through the area in 2003. He is survived by his wife, Edie, a daughter, Debbie, and a son, Dennis.

At past Board of Directors’ Meetings, several changes have been made to the range rules. These changes are listed below.

As decided 02 August 2012 Board of Directors’ Meeting, the following new rules now apply:

1. A Junior shooter (member 8 through 17 years of age) must be under the direct supervision of a parent, legal guardian or adult with a signed permission slip from the parent or legal guardian. The supervising adult, unless an active member in good standing of the Escondido Fish and Game Association, is prohibited from shooting, except for instructional purposes.

2. Any person under the age of 12 is limited to .22 caliber only while shooting on the pistol range.

[Highlighting at authors discretion]

More regarding Junior and Youth members from previous Board of Director Meeting rule changes as published in the August 2012 “Sound-Off”

Juniors Members, those shooters 8 through 17, must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or an adult with a signed permission slip from their parent or legal guardian. Junior members may not use a rifle, shotgun, handgun or archery without direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian or an adult with a signed permission slip from their parent or legal guardian. Junior members may not bring guests, except for their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) or an adult with a signed permission slip from their parent or legal guardian.

Youth Members, 18 to 21, may not be in possession of a hand gun unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or an adult with a signed permission slip (EF&GA rule). Youth members may shoot rifle, shotgun and archery without a parent or legal guardian. Youth members may bring two guests to the range with the same provisions as above.

My “What the ….?” for the month. One of the things I/we stress is ‘to be aware of your surroundings while at the range’ and it is a good idea to practice this elsewhere. We have had two really scary situations happen recently. 1) We had a shooter practicing prone at the 150 yard range on lane one. Two women crawled over the chain fence at the emergency access (cut-out) in the berm dividing the two rifle ranges. Our shooter was reading a shot when he noticed something strange in his scope. You guessed it: the two women walking onto the range. This really scared our shooter. 2) Just recently, two male members were walking along the backstop the runs from the pistol range through the 100 yard range. The 100 yard range was HOT and shooting was taking place. This really made the day for those on the range.

I was going to have my usual ‘Range Safety Tip Of The Month’ in this space, but I think my ‘What the …? For the month’ covers it quite well. Remember, you are responsible for your safety and the safety of those around you.

So, heads up folks and stay safe out there.
