Volume 59 No. 6 May-June 2019 Our 96th Year
Dear Brothers in Christ,
With summer rapidly approaching, my time as Grand Knight
is coming to an end. It was an exciting and wonderful experience
that I will never forget. I was fortunate enough to have the help
and support of my officers and council brothers. The council
would never have thrived without your involvement.
In the month of April, the Joseph Barry Council honored our
fellow brothers who served this council for over 25, 50, and 60
years of service during our Old Timer’s Night. April also brought
us the Murder Mystery dinner and the Left, Right, Center event.
I would like to give a huge thank you to Brian Lee and all those
who delivered Easter baskets to the needy. It is acts of charity
like this that the Knights of Columbus was founded on. I also
hope everybody had a healthy and Holy Easter.
We will start off the month of May with a Blood drive on May
2, and we hope you’re able to come out and support this great
cause. On the 5th of the month the JBC, along with the 4th Degree
and the Columbiettes, will host the annual Communion
Breakfast coordinated by Ray Romano. On Tuesday, May 7, the
council will be having a Memorial Mass for all of our departed
brothers. Our prayers go out to the families of those members.
On Monday, May 27th, the JBC will proudly be marching in the
Memorial Day parade; all members are asked to attend if
possible.
We will begin the month of June with Hawaiian Night run by
Don Cleary. The new officers will also be elected in the month
of June and we are very excited to see the upcoming council.
Awards Night will be held on June 18; please come and show
your support for all those deserving recipients. On June 23rd -
25th, Brian Dunker will be running the annual golf outing at the
Villa Roma.
Last July we set goals for the upcoming year, I am happy to
say we met or exceeded all of our goals. Joseph Barry came in
third place on Long Island selling the most C&B books this year.
We have 10 new members and 5 reinstated members. We gave
baskets to needy families for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and
Easter. The credit for our success goes out to every member who
gave his time and service. I would like to thank my officers:
Deputy Grand Knight Derek Stadler, Chancellor Joe Del Priore,
Warden Ray Romano, Guards Jim Kershaw, Nick Brigandi,
Paul Kraus, Financial Secretary Don Cleary, Treasurer Bill
Artuso, Recorder Randy Mittash, Advocate Mike Dantuono,
Trustees Walter Duffy, Tom Zegers, Richard Burg, Mentor
Brian Lee and District Deputy Doug Quinn for all your help
and guidance throughout the year. I couldn’t have run such a
successful year without this amazing council and officers. It
has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your Grand
Knight for 2018-2019.Thank you and may Father McGivney
pray for us.
Vivat Jesus

New York State abolished the death penalty in 2007.
The state stopped all executions of prisons on the death
penalty in 1984. The reason was because it was cruel and
inhumane to execute a prisoner for their crimes, no
matter how severe it might have been. In 2019, New
York State passed a law that states a person can execute
a fetus in the third trimester. New York State sees the
death penalty as inhumane, but not executing a baby in
the third trimester. If you disagree with this bill that has
been passed, it’s time for action. Contact your local
politician and let him or her know you will vote in
November based on their actions. The time to act is now.

Protecting Widows – A Founding Goal As a member of this council, you know how important
spouses can be to the charitable works of the Order. If
you’re married, your wife is probably involved in a few of
the many events that happen each fraternal year. This
support adds great value and impact to what a council can
achieve. When the Order was founded in 1882, Father Michael J.
McGivney and the other brave men were setting out to
protect Catholic families, but especially wives and children.
Today, we remain committed to this mission by offering
insurance products and fraternal benefits designed with that
goal in mind. One specific policy rider that you may not
know about is called Spousal Waiver of Premium. This rider
is unique to the Knights of Columbus philosophy of helping
our widows.
This rider is available on most permanent and Discoverer
plans purchased at standard rates by a member and his wife
on the same day. When both spouses apply, the rider provides
for waiver of premiums on the spouse’s contract in the event
of the insured’s death. Best of all, for members and spouses
ages 18 to 60, this waiver can be added for no charge. The
rider stays in effect until the spouse attains age 65 or certain
other triggering events occur.
Our products are designed with your needs and budget in
mind. With a solid portfolio of life insurance, long-term care,
disability income and retirement products, the Knights of
Columbus can help you meet all of your financial goals. To
learn more about these solutions, contact me today.
