Regional Restructuring Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there a need for regional restructuring?

Increasing the number of regions is the

Fraternity’s natural response to growth in the number of chartered Chapters. When the Fraternity tried an alternative approach (co-directors), it was not sustainable and during this time period the Fraternity experienced the inactivation of 12 Chapters (Note: 13 Chapters were chartered or reactivated during this time period resulting in a net growth of only 1 Chapter). Increasing the number of regions allows for an increased number of chapter visits, which is needed to provide support to new and existing Chapters. Increasing the number of regions also makes the workload for our Regional Officers more reasonable.

Why is the implementation of new regions occurring now instead of at Grand Council?

Our planning for the 2012 Regional Conferences begins at the Leader-Development Seminar. By implementing the new regions now, adequate notice, training, and support for host Chapters of the 2012 Regional Conferences can be provided.

How are the duties of the vacant Regional Correspondent positions going to be filled?

The Fraternity does not have a provision within our Constitution and Bylaws for filling vacancies when they occur among the Regional Correspondents. Project Directors will be appointed by the Grand President to fulfill the duties of the vacant Regional Correspondent positions until elections can be held at Grand Council.

What will happen to the Regional Officers of the previous five regions?

The current 5 Regional Correspondents will continue as Regional Correspondents in specific regions based on their geographic locations. The Executive Council appointed Regional Directors for Collegiate Affairs and Regional Directors for Alumni Affairs.

What are the financial implications of adding regions?

There are additional expenses associated with adding regions. There are also additional revenues associated with the additional of new Chapters. Assuming no additional growth, a budget analysis revealed the Fraternity can conservatively afford nine regions. However, as the Executive Council created potential regional restructuring plans, eight regions emerged as the best fit.

Is this regional restructuring plan a permanent solution?

Hopefully not. Adding regions is a sign of continued growth. The regional restructuring plan supports recent growth

as well as an anticipated 10 to 15 additional Chapters. As we approach the chartering and reactivation of 10 to 15 additional Chapters, the Executive Council should consider adding another region.

Was the need for regional restructuring a decision made solely by the Executive Council?

No. Regional restructuring emerged as the top goal for the Fraternity during a strategic planning retreat with Regional Officers from each of the regions. Feedback was solicited from the 2010 Regional Conferences, and the regional restructuring plan was modified based on the feedback from the Regional Conferences.

Where do I look to find out which region my Chapter is in?

A listing of Chapters and their respective regions can be found in the June e-Communicator as well as the updated pledge manual.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact your Regional or Grand Officers.

Fraternally,

Brandon

Greetings from Collegiate Affairs!

Fall is here…time for Chapter Visits. A Chapter Visit is a focused visit designed to address a Chapter’s specific developmental

need. For example, facilitating a Chapter development workshop is a typical occurrence at Chapter Visits. Chapter Visits are conducted at one Chapter in each region yearly in the Fall. This year we will have 8 Chapter Visits for the first time ever! I am very excited that we will be able to visit more Chapters with our new regional structure. We will be visiting Mu, Beta Pi,

Sigma, Beta Xi, Epsilon, Alpha Psi, Beta Omicron, and Alpha Kappa. Each team consists of 2 of the 3 Regional Officers and they spend an intense weekend with the Chapter covering a variety of topics chosen by the Chapter that will make them stronger, more cohesive, and more successful. It is also a great opportunity to get to know your Regional Officers.

We are starting out this school year with 3 active colonies. Belmont University in Nashville, TN, University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX, and Husson University in Bangor, ME are all busy preparing to become chartered in the near future. If you are in the area and can help with these colonies, please email

[email protected]. We also have had many inquires about new colonies. The RDCA team is busy reviewing our colony and colony coordinator guidelines so these new colonies get the very best experience we have to offer.

Our Collegiate Affairs team is very excited about this upcoming year. Please take the time to drop a line and give us your feedback and ideas!

AAAE,

Amy ValdezGrand Vice President for Collegiate [email protected]

National Operating Dues and Insurance Premiums

Every fall as students are returning to

school the National Office is preparing to welcome the students back. By the time you read this your chapter will have already received your roster and total due for National Operating Dues (NODs) and insurance premiums. Both NODs and insurance premiums are charged to the chapter based on the number of brothers

in your chapter. In your packet you will be receiving a roster of all students that the national office has on file. Please make sure you review the roster.

The process to remove a brother from your roster is to expel them. You can contact the National Office for the correct procedure to expel someone from your chapter. Please note that is no exception for last year brothers or brothers on rotation. As long as they are enrolled in school they are considered an active collegiate brother. As such, the chapter is responsible for paying their NODs. Alumni status is reserved for those who have graduated.

NODs are $45 per brother and the insurance premium is $10 per brother. All payments are due to the National Office by October 31. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Applicants are evaluated on their potential to become leaders for the profession of pharmacy, as demonstrated by involvement in school and community activities and academic performance. This year the Foundation will award nine annual scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. The deadline for applications is December 1, 2010.
