    n order to encourage exporters

    to use e-commerce platforms,

    FIEO, eBay and PayPal have

    launched a partnership programme to

    promote retail exports via e-com-

    merce from India.

In this backdrop, FIEO in associa-

tion with eBay organized an aware-

ness and training session UnleashingGlobal Retail Exports Through E-Com-

    merce at Hyderabad on September

    22, 2012. Around 50 participants

    from handicrafts and other sectors

    participated in this event.

    The programme was inaugurated

by Mr S.B.S. Reddy, Joint Director

    General of Foreign Trade, Hyderabad.

Mr Navin Mistry of eBay and Mr Milind

    Sanghavi of PayPal made presenta-

tions on how to make use of e-com-

    merce and beat the recessionary

trend being faced by the exporters.

    Mrs Santhi, Joint Director, FIEO

    (Andhra Pradesh Chapter) welcomed

    the participants.

Mr Reddy in his inaugural address

    said the Government has recognized

    the export potential of e-commerce

and decided to grant export benefits

for all goods shipped through courier

    and e-commerce platforms. He also

    appreciated FIEO for organizing such

awareness events which will be highly

beneficial not only to the exporters

but also to the business community.

    Earlier, while welcoming the par-

    ticipants, Mrs Santhi highlighted var-

ious initiatives taken by FIEO for

helping members to diversify theirmarkets and also the Federations

    participation in various trade fairs

    and exhibitions.

    Mr Mistry in his presentation

    mentioned that FIEOs tie-up with

eBay and PayPal will help FIEO mem-

bers in setting up free stores on the

    eBay website, with unlimited product

listing facility for a period of six

    months which otherwise costs ap-

    proximately $50 per month. FIEO

    members upon production of their

RCMC are entitled to an immediate

upfront benefit of around Rs 18,000

    through this tie-up.

    Mr Sanghavi mentioned that the

    tie-up also provides PayPals e-pay-

    ment gateway integration with the

members bank free of cost and facil-

itates members to accept payment in

    24 currencies. According to the

process, the buyer makes the pay-

ment against the order which will be

credited to the exporter s account im-

mediately and the orders are shipped

by the exporters after securing the

    payment. Hence, 100% payment is

    ensured.

Apart from this, eBay has negoti-

ated substantially reduced prices forthe services of courier companies

Fedex and DHL. This will help ex-

porters to ship their order at a com-

petitive price. There is no need for

making payment upfront by the ex-

porter to the courier company and

the bill will be raised by eBay on a

monthly basis. By creating a store in

eBay and listing the products, 10 ad-

ditional sales channel to FIEO mem-

bers will be opened. Currently eBay is

having a presence in 39 markets and

this will open a new window for FIEO

    members.

    During the interactive session, of-

ficials from eBay and PayPal provided

clarification to the queries raised by

    handicraft exporters and other partic-

    ipants.

Mrs Santhi proposed the vote of

    thanks. n
