    The Passionate Mind: How Individuals with Autism LearnPresented by Dr Wendy Lawson. Dr Wendy Lawson is an adult with high functioning autism. As a child she was considered to be

    intellectually disabled, and almost incapable of doing as she was told. Today, as a mother of four, a qualified counsellor, socialworker and psychologist with a PhD, Wendy is well-known and respected for her writing and seminars based on her research and herown personal experiences as a person with autism.

    Wendy's presentation explores autism spectrum, social demand and how to bridge some of the gaps so individuals with an ASD cantruly be involved with an inclusive society. Wendy discusses how individuals with autism learn, and offers practical strategies to assisttheir learning.

    The Twinkle Child FoundationWe are a student run charity who are passionate about making a difference for the kids in our society. The Twinkle Child Foundationis made of school and university students from around Auckland that love to donate their time and energy for a good cause. In thepast we have worked a lot with the South Auckland Health Foundation and also done our own fundraising. But with a constantlygrowing number of volunteers, we are looking to get even more involved with youth out in the community who need a hand. We wantto get connected with any children's support groups, organisations and schools in the disability sector and explore how we could be ofhelp! We are especially good with volunteering at events!

    Do You Have a Passion for Working with Children with Special Needs

    11 Year Old Boy with Cerebral Palsy (left Hemiplegic), ADHD and associated social, behavioural and learning difficulties. Looking forthe perfect Person to assist with physical activities and to be a "mentor / buddy". Must be able to ski or snowboard, be able to helpwith specific exercises to increase movement and maintain flexibility on the left side. Activities may also include, ball play in the park,table tennis, swimming, scootering and walking. Must be kind, patient, compassionate and responsible. This will be a long termcommitment for the right person so applicants must be prepared to be fully committed for a long period of time.

    5 Hours a week: 3 hours on a Saturday (snow planet) and 2 - 1 hour sessions during the week for other activities. Must have full clean drivers licence as some driving will be necessary. Preferably live on the Hibiscus Coast - Red Beach,

    Orewa, Stanmore Bay area. Experience with special needs not essential, as each individual has different needs, but would be beneficial.
